Getting There

If you're flying in, you have two options: 1.) Fly to Albany (1.5 hour drive to MTA) 2.) Fly to any of the three New York City airports: JFK, LaGuardia, or Newark (2.5 hour drive, OR 3 hour Trailways Bus) Details below! Let us know if you have questions!

Albany International Airport

The closest airport to Mount Tremper Arts is Albany International Airport. The Albany airport is about an hour and a half by car from MTA, so to get to MTA from the airport, you'll either need to rent a car, or hitch a ride with another guest. If you would like to be put in touch with someone who is already planning to rent a car, let us know!! And likewise, if you've got space in your car and wouldn't mind an extra passenger, let us know that too! Thanks!

Flight

New York City Airports (JFK, LaGuardia, Newark)

Another option is to fly in to one of the 3 New York City airports -- JFK, LaGuardia, or Newark. Mount Tremper Arts is about a 2.5 hour drive from each of these -- or you can take the Trailways bus (details below).

To get to Mount Tremper Arts from New York City, take the TRAILWAYS BUS from PORT AUTHORITY to PHOENICIA. The ride is about 3 hours -- this is what I (Sophie) always did, when I worked at Mount Tremper Arts, or went there for residencies with my company. Option 1.) Ask us (or someone else) to pick you up from the Phoenicia Bus Stop. (It's a very, very short drive.) VERY IMPORTANT: you will lose cell phone reception about 20 minutes before the bus arrives in Phoenicia, and you will not have it again -- maybe the whole time you are at Mount Tremper Arts (there is wifi, however). So, it is important to connect with your ride from the bus stop WHEN THE BUS STOPS IN WOODSTOCK. This is usually the last stop before you lose cell service. Give us a call, and say "hey, I'm in Woodstock, see you at the bus stop in about 25 minutes.) If, for some reason, you fail to connect with your ride, it's not a huge deal. Phoenicia is extremely tiny, so as long as someone knows what time you are supposed to arrive, they'll be able to find you. Still, I've always touched base by phone with my ride when the bus stops in Woodstock and I'd recommend you do the same. :)

Option 2.) The Trailways bus actually drives right past Mount Tremper Arts on its way to the Phoenicia Bus Stop. Most drivers are happy to just drop you at the driveway to Mount Tremper Arts on their way to Phoenicia. When you get on the bus, say to your driver, "Hey, I'm actually going to Mount Tremper Arts. Could you drop me at the Mount Tremper Arts driveway?" I have almost never had a driver say no to this request. However, because, as I've said, you will lose cell phone reception about half an hour out, it's very important to ask your driver WHEN YOU GET ON THE BUS at Port Authority if they are open to doing this. That way, you will have ample time to touch base with us (or whoever is picking you up) and let us/them know, if the driver says no to dropping you off at the driveway, that you will need a ride from the Phoenicia Bus Stop -- and then see option 1.

Where to Stay

Most of the places to stay listed below are small establishments in Phoenicia, just a few minutes away from Mount Tremper Arts. Because they're small, they are likely to fill up quickly. (Please let us know if you call somewhere and it's full, so that we can take it off of this website.) We will provide transportation to and from each of these places at the beginning and end of the evening. If you are staying somewhere that is not on this list (or if you are staying in an AirBnB), please let us know, so that we can arrange for the shuttle to stop by you.
