Question

How do I get to Port Townsend?

Answer

Whether you are traveling to Port Townsend from the Seattle airport or downtown Seattle, it's about a two- to three-hour journey and will likely require a personal or rented vehicle (public transit details below). If you're starting from the airport, we suggest either driving south to Tacoma and then up the Olympic Peninsula, or heading into downtown Seattle and taking a ferry to Bainbridge or Bremerton (both about a 1hr20min drive to Port Townsend). If you plan to take a car onto a ferry, know that you should buy your tickets in advance, and there can be long lines, meaning you may not get on the first ferry and have to wait for the next. Whichever route you take, it's a truly beautiful area, and you'll enjoy the voyage. If you'd like to find people to carpool with, please let us know.

Question

Can I get to Port Townsend using only pubic transportation?

Answer

Yes! The Dungeness Lines offers two semi-daily buses from the Seattle airport to Port Townsend. Visit: https://dungeness-line.com/schedules/. From SEA-TAC, there's a 11:50am bus (M-F), and a 7:00pm bus (Th-M). These buses arrive in Port Townsend at 3:00pm and 10:30pm, respectively. Note that Port Townsend is a request-only stop, and so you'll need to book your tickets ahead of time to ensure the bus stops there for pick up or drop off. You can use the same bus line to get back to the airport. There's a bus that leaves Port Townsend at 6:55am (M-F), and a bus that leaves Port Townsend at 1:20pm (Th-M). These buses arrive at SEA-TAC at 10:00am and 4:40pm, respectively. These buses also stop at various locations in Seattle if you're coming from the City. Make sure to check the company website to see if there are changes to this schedule due to the holiday weekend.
