Travel

Here are a few suggestions for hotels and travel options. We have secured a discounted rate at the FiDi hotel from August 8-12. In addition, we have found that the Financial District (FiDi) has reasonable hotels and good accessibility to other parts of the city. We have listed some options below. We are also listing some more affordable hotels in the Downtown Brooklyn area. Of course, it's always worth checking AirBnB or other hotel sites you like. We are happy to give you our thoughts if you are wondering about a place you've found. Just message us!

We have reserved a block of rooms at a discounted rate at the FiDi hotel. Those who are interested can book a room here for $174 USD/night before taxes and fees (about $200 with) from August 8-12, and three days either side. Clicking 'View' below should take you to the rooms earmarked for our event. To access this rate, please book by June 26th at the latest. If discounted rooms run out and you are interested in staying at this hotel, please let us know and we will inquire about adding to the block of rooms at this rate.

Airports

There are three major airports serving NYC - Laguardia (LGA), JFK, and Newark (EWR). We prefer LGA, with Newark being our least favorite if your destination is Queens or Brooklyn. For folks staying in Manhattan, Newark can work. There is an air train service from the airport that connects to New Jersey Transit that will take you to Penn Station. Each airport has public transit links. For LGA, you can take a free bus that will take you to the subway in Queens or the subway or MetroNorth in Harlem. For JFK, the air train connects you to Jamaica, where there are links to the subway to Queens and Manhattan and the Long Island Railroad (which connects to Penn Station and Grand Central in Manhattan).

Train

L Train

The closest subway stop to Night of Joy is the Lorimer Street stop on the L train which runs across town along 14th in Manhattan into Brooklyn.

Travel Note

Taxis, Ubers, and Lyfts

Ubers and Lyfts can be ordered and paid for via their respective apps. You can expect to be picked up in a few minutes with these services. Yellow taxis can often be hailed on the street. They accept cash or card. There is also an app for yellow cabs called Curb, but it's not the best. We have a friend who is a taxi driver. if you'd like a specific pick up from a recommended driver, let us know (cash payment for the fare preferred).

Train

Subway

We love the NYC subway! You can get a long way on one fare (about $3) and it's always an opportunity to see some local talent and character. You can pay for the subway with a credit or debit card that is tap enabled, Apple/Google pay, or buy purchasing a swipe card in one of the stations. The Google Maps app is pretty well synced to the subway locations and schedules, but pay attention to potentially funky weekend schedules. The subway runs 24 hours, but service is less frequent overnight. Please note that many subway stations lack elevators or escalators, so be prepared for stairs!
