A few of our favorite NYC spots

NYC has so many weird and wonderful places, we couldn't even scratch the surface on spots to recommend. This is nowhere near an exhaustive list. If you are able, one of our favorite ways to be in NYC is just to walk around (bring bandaids for blisters!!). We will keep adding to this list as we think of things. If you are staying in a particular neighborhood and want specific recommendations, send one of us a text! For an interactive map, copy and paste this link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/t36jrYMYu9Ud4T6D8

Un Posto Italiano (coffee)

206 Garfield Place, Park Slope, NY 11215

Our former local cafe in Brooklyn with fabulous Italian coffee, snacks, and cocktails. To avoid disappointment, note that they are closed Monday Tuesday!

Prospect Park (outdoors)

Brooklyn, NY

A gorgeous city park designed by the same architect as Central Park but much less touristy.

Brooklyn Museum (arts and culture)

200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11238

An absolute gem, both architecturally and culturally. Check out first Saturdays for late night programming. It's set on the border of Prospect Park so a good thing to follow up a visit to Un Posto and a walk in the park.

Washington Square Park (outdoors)

Washington Square, New York, NY 10012

Andy's former back yard, a lively park in the heart of the village with a beautiful reproduction of the Arc de Triomphe

Jackson Heights (neighborhood, food, shopping)

Jackson Heights, NY

The neighborhood where Sophia and Phoebe lived together, home to some of the best South Asian food and lots of fabulous jewelry and accessories. Espresso 77 is a lovely cafe with coffee, snacks, and wine, Sophia recommends the veggie samosas with green sauce from Merit Kebab Palace, and the Ready Penny was Sophia and Phoebe's spot for Jamesons and all the local gossip (also our home away from home once things started re-opening in Covid times).

Goodwill (shopping)

103 West 25th Street, New York, NY 10001

Sophia's favorite goodwill. Note that there are no change rooms, so be prepared to try on things over your clothes!

Strand Book Store (shopping)

828 Broadway, New York, NY 10003

An iconic (and enormous) independent bookstore just south of Union Square.

Le French Diner (food and drink)

188 Orchard Street, New York, NY 10002

Walk-in only hole in the wall French restaurant in the Lower East Side.

Bar Contra (food and drink)

138 Orchard Street, New York, NY 10002

Cocktail bar recently voted the best new bar of 2024 with a beverage program headed by our beloved Theo!

Della's (food and drink)

66 West Broadway, New York, NY 10007

Our favorite wine bar in NYC and the site of many of our celebrations, co-owned by the fabulous Marjie. Have the affogato with the butter and salt gelato.

Gage & Tollner (food and drink)

372 Fulton Street, Downtown Brooklyn, NY 11201

A beautiful restaurant for old-world vibes and delicious food.

Bar Louise (food and drink)

221 7th Avenue, Park Slope, NY 11215

A jewel-box cocktail bar in Park Slope. The First Crush cocktail was our favorite!

Chito Gvrito (food and drink)

173 3rd Avenue, New York, NY 10003

Phoebe and Sophia stumbled upon this place once after visiting the photography museum Fotografsika and now it's in the regular rotation. Be sure to order orange wine and the adjaruli khachapuri.

Spes (food and drink)

413 East 12th Street, New York, NY 10009

A cozy natural wine bar with delicious Italian food.

Motel Morris (food and drink)

132 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10011

Super cute restaurant and bar with small plates and a vintage-y vibe.

Little Owl (food and drink)

90 Bedford Street, New York, NY 10014

Cozy village dinner spot.

Lil' Frankie's (food and drink)

19 1st Avenue, New York, NY 10003

East Village Italian spot with hip ambiance without being annoying (who knew it was possible). Also visit the affiliated restaurant, Frank's (we always get them mixed up). Note, this place is cash only but there's an ATM on site.

Loring Place (food and drink)

21 West 8th Street, New York, NY 10011

Delicious drinks and small plates. Formerly across the street from Andy's place. The site of many dates and takeout deliveries for us.

8th Street Winecellar (food and drink)

28 West 8th Street, New York, NY 10011

A favorite late night spot for wine and cocktails with our friend (and skilled bartender) Mariah. The food is good but the kitchen closes well before the bar, fyi!

Russian Samovar (food and drink, sometimes music too)

256 West 52nd Street, New York, NY 10019

One of the only reasons to go to midtown! Serving kitsch and the best martinis, we always make a point of visiting whenever we are in the neighborhood.

Dutch Kills (cocktails + sometimes music)

27-24 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101

One of Sophia and Phoebe's go-to cocktail bars. They recently added an upstairs space with live performances. Ask for the high priestess. It's no longer on the menu, but S+P always ask for it anyway.

Mona's (dive bar + live music)

224 Avenue B, New York, NY 10009

An historic East Village dive bar with great music on Monday (blue grass) and Tuesday (trad jazz) nights. Tuesday's was our favorite!

Sharlene's (dive bar)

353 Flatbush Avenue, Prospect Heights, NY 11238

Our local dive bar in Brooklyn, complete with functioning juke box and cranky bartenders.

Smalls Jazz Club (live music)

183 West 10th Street, New York, NY 10014

Where Sophia and Andy met, and where Sophia used to work. A fabulous place to see live music.

Mezzrow (live music)

163 West 10th Street, New York, NY 10014

Smalls' little sister, a lower key jazz bar across 7th avenue from Smalls.

The Daddy Rabbit (live music)

Adelaide's (downstairs at Lou Lou), 176 8th Avenue, New York, NY 10011

A fantastic show in a unique venue. Check the website for tickets and event schedule.

Zinc Bar (live music)

82 West 3rd Street, New York, NY 10012

One of Andy's old haunts.

Rockwood (live music)

185 Orchard Street, New York, NY 10002

A free stage for indie music acts. No guarantees how it will be, but the sets are short so you can see a few acts over a drink in an hour or two. We have heard some great performances here. It's also close to Lil Frankies if you are looking for dinner after.

333 Lounge (live music)

333 Flatbush Avenue, Prospect Heights, NY 11217

A laid back spot for local music in Brooklyn. I think they post their schedule on instagram @333lounge
