Sonya first met Dave when he crashed a work party at her home in 2010. Dave noticed some of his work colleagues parking on the street and decided to invite himself to the event. While Sonya was surprised at his boldness, she didn't kick him out on that occasion because he was a good neighbor. She would occasionally notice him whizzing by on his bike, clad in spandex. But, mostly, she knew (and loved) Dave's former wife Karen, who invited Sonya's family to Thanksgiving after her divorce in 2013. Sonya moved away to DC in 2015 and then returned to Austin in 2018. After Karen's passing in 2023, Sonya and Dave would walk in the neighborhood with Charlie and Piper and talk about grief. Dave and Sonya bonded over a shared love of hiking, biking, trips to Colorado, car karaoke (maybe just Sonya on that), shared love of family and playing with their pups. Over the two years they dated, they enjoyed travels to Seattle, Arizona, St. Lucia and Washington D.C. In June of 2025, Dave proposed to Sonya on a bench overlooking Colorado Springs, with his very own rendition of "Love Song" by the Cure. She enthusiastically said yes, ignoring some rough spots in his serenade. We could not be more thrilled to have you enjoy our special day with us. As we do so, we also aim to honor those who are no longer with us including lovely Karen, sweet Jojo and all four of our parents (Mimi and Paul, Wendy and John).
