We met nine years ago, as medical students at the Saba University School of Medicine on the small, Dutch island of Saba - a volcano that rises from the Caribbean Sea. We were out at a resort celebrating the end of exams with mutual friends, when we both stepped away from the crowd to admire the sunset from a cliffside garden. That evening, we had the first of many fun, easy conversations. Within weeks, we fell in love in this surreal place. Our time together on the island was short-lived. Aman soon returned to his home in Newfoundland, and Somy left for her home in Chicago. Over the next six years of medical school and residency, we commuted to one another between different cities in Canada, Connecticut, Maryland, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Minnesota, and New York. Despite our time and distance apart, we grew as life partners together. We got engaged in Tulum, Mexico in March 2019, and eloped in the Valley of Fire amidst the COVID pandemic on February 16, 2021. We have since moved forward together, to the lovely city of Cleveland on the shores of Lake Erie. We both work as physicians at the Cleveland Clinic, and spend our time together cooking, relaxing, traveling, and smothering our cat Leo with love. We are so excited to see you this summer, and finally have the opportunity to celebrate our new marriage with you!
