Solange & Jovany ..... Are Getting Married!

This is not your typical story of boy meets girl, they date, they fall in love, and they get married. The end. No no no, this story is very different. This is the story of love in the time of Corona. This is the story of love during a time of uncertainty and despair. Picture Solange a single mom of two, a 14-year-old and a two-year-old, who had basically given up any hope finding love or even being in a relationship with anyone. Picture this single mother of two just being happy with just her kids and living her life, no thoughts of relationship on her mind. Now Solange wasn't always like this. She was always the slightly romantic hopeful, when it came to relationships. But due to many failed relationships, Solange no longer considered the possibility of pursuing another one. She believed that as she neared the age of 40, that she should just focus on her kids and daily comings and goings. But something made her think about trying a relationship one more time. Maybe this need to attempt a relationship for the last time was Solange's pure curiosity coming to fruition or perhaps it was her competitive spirit showing out, because she hates giving up without a fight. Overall, she knew that this in this final attempt, she did not want a boyfriend, she wanted a man. She wanted an individual who embodied all the things that encompassed a man - loyalty, trustworthiness, security and communication. She wanted someone that wanted to be a husband, have a family, have adventures, but most of all she wanted a partner, a friend, a confidant. No quicker had she casted her wants and needs into the Universe did she ever think that she would meet someone who embodied most of them. Enter stage left - Jovany

Jovany a New Yorker, born and raised – Roosevelt stand up, experienced the many highs and lows that life had to offer. However, despite the many lows, Jovany remained steadfast to his mantra, to be a man, which meant being a role model and provider for his two (2) boys. Jovany did this 7 days a week, 24hrs a day for what seemed like an eternity. Minutes, days, hours, weeks began to run together, with each week looking like the next. Jovany realized that he wanted more than what he currently had. He wanted to be able to share his life with someone, but where would he start. He believed that there were slim pickings in Florida City. The caliber of females in his area did not appeal to him and they were nowhere near the standard of female companionship that he desired. But of course, where would he go to find such a woman? Facebook Dating, I know you are thinking what!!! but its true that's where it all began. One day on Facebook dating he received notifications, about Solange's profile. He was mesmerized, every pic on her profile was better than the last. It baffled him because he had never dated a black girl before and was never attracted to black females. But with Solange he couldn’t stop starting. Eventually, their Facebook messaging, transferred to WhatsApp messaging and then video calling, because Jovany had the audacity not to have Facetime, LOL. The calling turned into an all-day affair. Morning, noon, and night just being on the phone not saying anything but just looking at each other. Finally came the first meeting, and it was a hurricane meeting a volcano in the middle of an asteroid storm. Our energies were electric, we couldn’t get enough of each other’s presence. But Jovany realized that the distance would be too much for the both of us, and if it was to evolve into a relationship, we would need to be closer in proximity. He made the decision to move closer to Solange and that was all she wrote.

Of course, like everything else in our life we did not have a run of the mill, romantic, Disney Princess, running through a field of flowers proposal. We had a Jovany proposal. On December 24, 2020, we had just returned home from a family gathering on the ranch, and we were sitting on the couch. It had just turned midnight, Christmas Day, and Jovany handed Solange her Christmas gift and told her to open it. It was a small box, and there was a ring inside. So, Solange is a bit stunned, but kept on looking down at the box and back across at Jovany. He in turn did the same. So, they sat across from each other looking down at the box and back at each other numerous times. Solange then proceeds to ask him, with a quizzical look on her face, what is this? Jovany simply replied, "so you gonna marry me or what"? Solange said to him, “that is not how you ask someone to marry them. You’re supposed to go down on one knee and propose to them.” Jovany said, "my big ass on the floor, I would never get up". Solange replied "go down on two knees and then I’ll help you'. So, in typical Jovany fashion he listened and proceeded to roll himself off the couch, like a beached walrus, and onto the floor and both knees. Jovany asked Solange to marry him. She said yes, but that’s not all. Because then, she had to help him off the floor. LOL.
