How We Met

08.24.2013

Caleb’s Version I was told by my college roommates that the neighbors were stopping to hang out on our porch, and that their new roommate was with them. I made my way downstairs to sneak a peak through the blinds. After one look I said “Dang who is that, I gotta talk to her”. I walked outside and Immediately introduced myself to Steph. This was completely out of the norm for me, as I never used to introduced myself to people back then. Steph and the neighbors then left us for the night. However, after that first night, we were inseparable. We hung out everyday, going to the bars, library (yes I actually went to the library), and hanging out at our places. Steph's Version What he said except we didn't hang out all the time until January when he FINALLY asked me to be his girlfriend.

The Proposal

01.11.2020

I wanted to re-create the first time I had come up to Minnesota with Steph by revisiting some of the spots we went to that weekend. I had planned out our day to have breakfast at a diner, ice-skating, and visiting Minnehaha Falls where I would ultimately propose. However, like in life nothing went according to plan. Not to say my planning skills and Steph’s stubbornness didn’t play a part. First stop was the diner, Convection Grill. Steph right a way pointed out that the diner was the opposite direction of where we were planning to be for the day and too far out of the way. It was hard to disagree with her logic, so instead we ended up making breakfast at home. Second stop was lake Nokomis for ice skating. I had failed to account for the weather, which was a frigid 10 degrees (Steph here: it was perhaps the coldest day of the year and just bizarre to be outside skating). Once we arrived to the lake and checked the ice conditions, which were not good, we quickly returned to the car to warm up. (Caleb sat in the warm car while I checked the ice) I knew Steph wouldn't agree to ice skating & seeing the falls, so I decided to scrap skating & convinced her to stop at Minnehaha Falls instead. Third stop was Minnehaha Falls. When we arrived, the stairs to go down to falls were closed off to the public and completely iced over (imagine one big ice slide), but there was no turning back. Steph reluctantly agreed to slide down the stairs, so hand in hand we semi-graciously made our way down. Half way down, we made our way to a landing where we stopped to look at the falls. I quickly pulled out the ring, got on one knee, and proposed. Sadly there was no long speech (IT WAS 10 DEGREES!), but one quick question. (I'm still waiting for the speech) After the proposal, we continued down to the falls to snap some pictures and then quickly ran back to the car to warm up. While the day did not turn out like planned, I could not have asked for a better day! (It was perfectly unperfect).
