Dating apps....suck. And after what seemed like the millionth unread start to a conversation, Melanie was about to give up on them all together. So when she matched with Mike, she tried a different approach from the normal "Hi" "Hello" "How are you?" "Favorite board game - go". The words that started it all. Because of their mutual love of board games, Mike suggested their first date be at his best friend's board game bar. A casual date, where they were each to bring a friend, and enjoy a few games. A few games turned into hours of laughter (and Mike learning very quickly how competitive Melanie can be - thanks mom), but neither really wanted the date to end. So after their friends had left, they continued the date at Bar Louie - chatting for hours about anything and everything, including their love of Marvel movies (right down to their shared favorite friendly neighborhood hero). It was, in every sense of the word, a perfect first date - moreso than either really knew at the time. Because 5 years later, at that very same board game bar, surrounded by friends - Mike got on one knee and asked Melanie to marry him. And she said yes!
