We met in Spring of 2011 in Chico, California where we both attended College. Unlike most college stories, we did not actually share a class - we met celebrating one of the other great college pastimes, Happy Hour! We started out how all great relationships begin - indifference. We were acquaintances who became friends, who became more.
Fast-forward 8 years and a few missed connections along the way, and through our mutual love of country music and the meddling of friends, a weekend stay started our great love story. With Tyler living in San Francisco and Megan living in San Jose, our newly blossoming relationship turned "long-distance." To add a few more trials along the way, we figured we would turn up the difficulty level and add an end-of-the-year international trip to our books - it turned into a success with Megan proclaiming, "2020 is going to be a great year!"
It turned out that 2020 definitely had a lot more in store for us than we anticipated. Our 2019 "hard mode" looked novice in comparison, as we celebrated our first year together with a global pandemic, sheltering-in-place and too many jigsaw puzzles for either of us to have touched one since. COVID-19 accelerated the move-in timeline, and after 8 years in San Francisco, Tyler left his Victorian walkup and moved in with Megan in San Jose; realizing the pleasures of a washer, dryer, and dishwasher, but sadly still, no AC.
We lost track of the minutes, hours, and days of work-from-home life, but found the quiet comforts of enjoying a meal and cuddle on the couch, or watching that new Netflix show that everyone was raving about. We joined the countless other couples and built a garden and brought home our new fur-baby (Franklin) and can definitively agree with the people who say that "owning a dog is hard."
Where better to begin that next great phase of our life then by returning to where it all started - Chico. It was a surprise engagement and the first of two back-to-back weekends in Chico - because who doesn't love a 6-hour round-trip car ride. Tyler was super nervous and pacing in the hotel room, concerned that they were not going to make their 11:00 am meeting with the hidden photographer because Megan decided that, "maybe I will curl my hair." With 5 minutes 'til and a 7 minute walk, Tyler's not-quite-jog was leaving Megan behind, but we made it to the Administration building and stood over the site where each graduating class entombs their 50-year time capsule - a fitting place to start our next 50 years. We look forward to seeing you in Pleasanton in celebrating this great adventure!
