Things To Do

Since this is a long trip for many people, consider staying in the area for more than just the wedding! The Sloop Family spends at least two weeks here every summer, and we have so many ideas for things you can do for all ages!

Montreat Barn Dance

411 Assembly Cir, Montreat, NC 28757

The barn dance is a summer tradition for decades for many people who visit Montreat. Including both square dancing and line dances, it is a fun experience for all ages! This happens every Friday during the summer.

Rock Hopping and Picnics at Monkey Bottom

If you have never been rock hopping, you should definitely try it out! The goal is to get all the way up a creek without letting your feet get wet. There's a great spot for it in Montreat with picnic tables where adults can sit.

Sliding Rock

Sliding Rock

NC 28768

Sliding rock is a natural water slide that you will want to do again and again!

Chimney Rock

431 Main St, Chimney Rock, NC 28720

Chimney Rock is a great location for hiking in the area!

Shopping in Black Mountain

Black Mountain, NC

There are some amazing shops in Black Mountain, and we highly recommend strolling around the area. Some of the places we go every time we are in town are The Black Mountain Yarn Shop (shocking, I know), Seven Sisters Gallery (for jewelry and pottery), and Bramblewood (for home decor).

Hiking Lookout Mountain

Lookout is a wonderful hiking trail in the middle of Montreat. It is a short but moderate hike and has great views at the top!

Canoe or Paddle Boat on Lake Susan

Canoe or Paddle Boat on Lake Susan

Lake Susan is in the middle of Montreat, right next to the Montreat Store and Ten Thousand Villages. There are canoes and paddle boats that you can rent to go out on the lake.

My Father's Pizza & Pasta

110 Cherry Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711
, (828) 669-4944

This is one of our must-eat restaurants! The pizza is amazing and so are the sandwiches. There's an option for even your most picky eater.

Red Rocker Inn

136 North Dougherty Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711
, (828) 669-5991

If you are looking for a nicer restaurant with some southern staples, this is a great option for you! The pot roast is amazing and so is the fried chicken!

Black Mountain Bistro

203 East State Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711
, (828) 669-5041

A classic bistro in downtown Black Mountain that we love!

Louise's Kitchen

115 Black Mountain Avenue, Black Mountain, NC 28711
, (828) 357-5446

A cute restaurant that has been converted from a house, you can sit and eat on the porch and look out at the Blue Ridge Mountains.

For all the days along the way
