"As long as you want it so bad, it's never going to happen; the only way it's going to work is if it doesn't matter" CHAPTER 1 In the middle of January 2020, my sister had given my phone number to this guy, Adam, who she thought was a REALLY good match for me (because we were the only two vegans she knew). I remember being at work when I received a text message from Adam, asking me out on a date that Saturday - GreenSpace Café in Ferndale. It took me a day to respond, but I accepted his invitation and was gearing up to go on my first date in over 5 years. Then a bad snowstorm hit on the Friday evening before and I was nervous to drive my car on the slippery roads, so I cancelled the date... at first. CHAPTER 2 I still wanted to go out with Adam, so I found something else for us to do the next weekend - a onesie bar crawl. I also invited my sister and her husband to make it a fun double date! Saturday rolled around, and Adam showed up dressed in a kangaroo onesie and ready to bar hop in Detroit. In between rounds of drinks, we sat and talked, asked questions, and got to know each other. I thought to myself "wow, he's handsome, he's got a great sense of humor and he knows how to have a lot of fun... I would like to know everything about this guy". CHAPTER 3 We hung out a few more times before he officially asked me to be his girlfriend! By March, we ended up meeting each other's parents, and some friends before the pandemic hit - but not to worry, even with the lockdown, we were exclusively seeing each other and nobody else. CHAPTER 4 During those months of lockdown where everyone was working from home, our love had found a way to bloom. We would go out skating, walk Gary and Corbin, sometimes he would come by after work to sleep while I got work done, we would make dinner together, we would discover cool places nearby, go disc golfing, and spend a lot of time sharing laughs and making memories together. Each moment I spent with Adam, I fell more and more in love with him. CHAPTER 5 Since then, we've traveled so many places together, have experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly, gotten so many tattoos, went to a lot of concerts, festivals and shows, laughed & cried, stayed up late talking or goofing around, and with each passing year, I've only found myself falling more and more in love with Adam. FAST FORWARD TO 2025 CHAPTER 6 After our 5 year anniversary, Adam bought me a ring and presented it to me on April 11th, 2025. We were at an upscale restaurant called Freya in Detroit, and I had been tipped off that something big was being planned by Adam. I did my hair and makeup really nice, put on a velvet black dress and prepared myself to ask the biggest question for our relationship. And he did, in a restaurant full of people (which had disappeared the moment he dropped to one knee - because the only thing that mattered in that moment was HIM)! CHAPTER 7 So here we are today, ready to read the next chapter of our love story, sharing it with our family and friends and making a commitment to witness each other's stories for the rest of our lives!
