Mount Lemmon is one of our favorite places in Tucson. Nestled in the Santa Catalina Mountains, it features a scenic drive up to the small mountaintop town of Summerhaven. Along the way, you’ll find plenty of scenic viewpoints, and at the top, a refreshing pine forest. Stop in Summerhaven for a slice of pizza and a famous Cookie Cabin treat—perfect for a half-day adventure.
Sabino Canyon is perfect for a desert hike! There’s something for everyone, from short loops to 8+ mile trails. It’s a great spot to check out desert plants and maybe even spot some wildlife. Our favorite hikes are Seven Falls via the Bear Canyon Loop and Phoneline trail.
A beautiful state park with tons of trail options — especially fun at night, when you can spot tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, and other desert animals.
Tucson is home to the largest cacti in the United States, saguaros. Visit Saguaro National Park to get immersed in nature. There are two park locations in Tucson: East (Rincon Mountains) and West (Tucson Mountains). You can find petroglyphs following the Signal Hill trail at Saguaro National Park West, or follow 1-2 mile loops at the east location to get immersed in the desert. The park is perfect for a morning or afternoon adventure to experience the beauty of the desert.
This museum is a great place to learn about the Sonoran Desert and get immersed in its plants, animals, and unique ecosystems through outdoor exhibits and walking trails.
Spend Sunday morning strolling the Rillito Park Farmers Market, where local vendors sell food and handmade goods.
