Richard and Skylar’s story began at New City Church in Austin, Texas, though depending on who you ask, the very first moment might look a little different. Richard will tell you he remembers Skylar holding the door for him one Sunday, a small moment that somehow stuck. But it wasn’t until a community group a little while later that they truly met and got to know each other. A few weeks after that, life provided the perfect excuse to bring them together. Skylar’s car was in the shop, and she asked Richard for a ride to community group. What started as a simple favor turned into something much more. Instead of heading straight there, they made an unexpected stop at Whole Foods, where they ended up sitting and talking for nearly an hour about life, stories, and everything in between. They shared a slice of berry chantilly cake and marked another milestone: Richard took his very first ginger shot, something he has since come to love, especially when they’re on sale. Not long after, Skylar made the bold move and asked Richard out, and their first date was just a few days later at Bouldin Acres. They bonded over queso, played some admittedly terrible pickleball, and laughed their way through it all. The night didn’t end there—they spent hours walking around Skylar’s neighborhood, talking and getting to know each other even more.
