We met just like everyone else does in this modern dating world. On a dating app! (Hinge does work!) Simran loves taking the credit for making the first move. One of Hitesh's prompts was, "I'm looking for: Someone who matches my energy, is willing to work together to build generational wealth/unconditional love with. And laughs a lot." Simran swiped right and commented, "good news, I like to laugh A LOT" and the rest is history. It took us 2 months to actually go out on a date! One of us was always just busy or out of the state until then, but we never stopped talking! Our first date was on Thanksgiving, 2023. What a weird day to have a first date, right? Hitesh woke up that morning and found that he had a flat tire. He stopped at a service area to fill up air, and still made it to the date! Thank god, because it clearly went so well that Simran went home that night, called her best friend and said, "I'm DEFINITELY marrying this guy." Someone call a psychic, because she totally predicted that!
Our relationship is full of little jokes and puzzles. Since we've been together, we've somehow ended up doing 20+ escape rooms. We're kind of like that weird couple who has a weird hobby. Who knew this would be the inspiration for Hitesh's proposal? He sent Simran on a wild goose chase across New Jersey to find him! Everyone had her convinced that May 31st, 2025 would just be a fun little beach trip (to where? they refused to tell her!) Hitesh told her that morning, "You're going to be annoyed at me today, but try not to get too annoyed." Simran said, "I would never!" ...You know exactly what happened next. Hitesh said he would go out to get us coffees and never came back (he even turned his location off!) Simran was DEFINITELY annoyed. But then she found the little mailbox on the table and opened it to find two little envelopes and a blacklight. It was a scavenger hunt with clues and puzzles for her to solve! All Simran could think was that he overestimated her abilities. We can't get through the escape rooms without each other! The scavenger hunt led her from her home in Flemington, to one of their favorite restaurants in Somerville (Surf, Turf, & Earth). Imagine her shock when she found out he even got the restaurant to be part of the scavenger hunt! Next stop: Branch Brook Park in Newark, where we first went to go see the cherry blossoms on a double date with Simran's best friend. So who else was going to be waiting for her there, than her best friend with yet another puzzle! This cryptex puzzle revealed the final clue, which (with the blacklight) gave the coordinates to the beach! Was that the end of it? Absolutely not! Simran's best friend blindfolded her and drove her straight to Hitesh. When the blindfold was finally removed, there stood Hitesh in the sand, waiting (im)patiently while Simran took her sweet time deciphering all of his clues. Hitesh never fails to make Simran laugh, and make the relationship fun. Even in his speech when he asked her to marry him, he was making her laugh. So much so, that he forgot his line that he practiced for weeks! It was a storybook end to a storybook day. Ours is a love story that is so special to us. And we can't wait to celebrate that love with all of you at our wedding!
