The 83rd Azalea Trail heralds the beginning of Spring! Blooms of Spring will be in full swing on March 2, 3 and 4, 2018. The Trail kicks off with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Lazy Lane entrance of Bayou Bend on Friday, March 2nd at 10:30 a.m. This year, a ticket to the Trail gives admission to 6 locations within the River Oaks neighborhood, including 4 private homes and gardens, Bayou Bend and Rienzi. A 7th free location, also in River Oaks, is the River Oaks Garden Club Forum of Civics where free advice from “Ask the Experts” can be enjoyed each day and on Saturday at 2:00 p.m, there will be a floral demonstration with easy to repeat floral tips from one of the talented Garden Club members! A free trolley will provide easy access to all 6 locations of homes, gardens and house museums.
March 1st, March 2nd - 8:00 PM The 90th Annual Academy Awards® is March 4, and to celebrate, Houston Symphony POPS Conductor, Steven Reineke has assembled some of the Oscars’® best original songs for a stunning, star-studded evening. Our program includes over 80 years of cinematic sounds, including “Over the Rainbow” (1939); “Moon River” (1962); “The Way We Were” (1973); “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” (1987); “Beauty and the Beast” (1991); “My Heart Will Go On,” (1997); “Skyfall” (2012) and “Let it Go” (2013). We’re also featuring award-winning film scores from composers John Williams, Erich Korngold and Ennio Morricone.
Nestled among 19 acres in the heart of downtown Houston, the Heritage Society boasts eight historic structures dating from 1823 to 1905. Each historic structure is authentically restored to reflect its original magnificence. Tuesday–Saturday: 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm & 2:30 pm.
March 3rd 10:00 AM This architectural and geological walking tour of downtown goes beyond the typical architectural focus to include the provenance and geology of the buildings' materials. These sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks have come from all over the world and now call Houston home. The tour is inspired by similar walks in Europe and adapted from the Houston Geological Society’s 1995 tour, Houston Building Stones. Meet at the SE corner of Austin and McKinney Streets, near the McKinney Street entrance to MKTBar @ Phoenecia. Discovery Green garage, surface lots and metered street parking are available in the area. Parking fees are not included with registration.
