Simon and Marli met 12 years ago studying diligently (and definitely not at the Greenwood Block Party) at the University of Michigan. They hit it off immediately and bonded over a love of a good party and having a good time. Their relationship grew over the next four years over long nights at the library and longer nights at concerts across Ann Arbor and Detroit. Upon graduating, Marli moved to Chicago while Simon moved to Detroit. Although separated by a 5 hour drive, their love remained strong and this time gave them two new cities to explore with new friends to become close with. In 2018, Marli moved to Detroit where she and Simon got their first apartment together in Corktown, and quickly grew their little family to include their new kitten Disco. The next four years in Detroit were capped with many memories together including a new job for Marli, Simon graduating grad school, a 6,000 mile road trip across the country to visit national parks, many many more concerts and a consistent laughter together throughout it all. In this time Simon and Marli grew to love the city of Detroit and are so excited to share a small slice of the city with all of their guests for their wedding. In 2021, Simon and Marli got an itch for a change of scenery. Working remotely opened up a world of opportunity for them to choose from. They decided to chase their passion of the outdoors and moved to Utah where they had an abundance of skiing, rock climbing and hiking in their backyard. Just a few short months after moving to Utah, while good friends Gabe and Nyelah were visiting, Simon suggested the four of them go for a hike. Marli deeply protested the idea given that the ski resorts were still open but Simon was saved by a fluke 80 degree Saturday in March that rendered skiing out of the agenda. After questioning Simon’s lack of hiking boots but otherwise unaware of what was to come, the four friends hiked up a trail north of Salt Lake City where Marli found waiting flowers, champagne and a proposal from Simon. Now, a year and half later, Marli and Simon are so excited to celebrate their wedding, in the city they love surrounded by family, friends, music and as always, plenty of laughter.
