Falling In Love...

"It began in a city of glitter and trumpets where painted faces' thirsty lips inhale the morning sun There amidst the champagne cacophony a girl found a boy and his voice seeped sweet satsuma melodies into her very bones." New Orleans is a magical place for many reasons, but for us, it will always be the breathtaking setting where we first fell in love. First kisses set to the melodic hum of a streetcar rolling by; first dances swaying like the Spanish moss overhead. First friends when we discovered a shared love of our favorite childhood movie (inconceivable!) and just two weeks later we started dating. We haven't spent a moment apart since (save the two years of long distance, but we think seven months together in a tiny cruise ship cabin evens that out). And now, here we are: thirty countries, two states and nine years later. We are just as in love as we were in our first moments on stage together in Spring Awakening, when our characters whispered "I hear your heartbeat. Everywhere I go, I hear it beating". Of all the love stories we've portrayed, ours is our favorite. We can't wait to celebrate its happy ending with all of you.

The Proposal

Catalina Island

Los Angeles. April, 2019. Brian was on tour with Broadway's Fiddler on the Roof, performing at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. As she did many times that year, Mackenzie hopped onto a plane to visit Brian on the road. Even though she was there to celebrate Brian’s birthday, he insisted she not plan anything. Instead, he wanted to spend an unscripted day on Catalina Island. “We’ll play it by ear,” he mused, vaguely. “At least let me get us a hotel the night before!” Mackenzie insisted, never one to show up empty handed, a quality she attributed to early childhood etiquette classes (thanks, Mom and Dad). Once on the island, the two enjoyed breakfast by the bay, sipping mimosas and enjoying the sunshine. By the end of the meal, Mackenzie could sense something was up; Brian seemed uncharacteristically anxious to get going. Anyone who knows Brian knows that, other than the perpetual leg shaking, he’s one laid back dude. “Okay, okay,” Brian admitted, “I do have one thing planned. I’ve scheduled us an eco tour; we’re going to Jeep through Catalina's nature preserve.” With a playful slap on the arm and loving rebuke, Mackenzie reminded Brian that it was his birthday after all! But that’s what you get when you fall for a romantic who loves surprises: you learn to delight in the adventures as they come. And what luck! It “just so happened” that they were the only two on the tour. They were whisked through the hills of Catalina, admiring the wild buffalo and pausing to eat berries off the vine. “I know you may want to stop and take pictures, but just wait,” their driver advised them. “There's a vista coming up, and that is THE shot. It’s the most beautiful spot on the island.” They emerged from the shade of the valley, arriving on a stunning cliffside overlooking the Pacific ocean. Not a soul was in sight, save a single sailboat bobbing in the water far below. As the two posed for what Mackenzie thought were birthday photos, Brian told her had one more surprise in store…
