How We Met

October 2016

Having recently graduated from college, Molly moved to Jersey City & was working in NYC. The dating app, Bumble, was new and exciting at the time so she gave it a try. Why not? Meanwhile, Phil was living in Livingston, New Jersey, and commuting to the city each day. He also decided to check out what Bumble was all about. Being 15 miles apart, Molly + Phil landed within each other's "desired radius" and eventually matched! Being that the girl is required to send the first message, Molly typed "Hi :)" and five years later the rest is history.

Our Proposal Story

February 6th 2021

The day Phil proposed was perfection. He called in good weather (which there wasn't much of in February 2021) and he managed to pull off the surprise of Molly's lifetime! This particular Saturday Molly was under the impression her parents, her sister, + Phil's parents were coming over to celebrate her upcoming 28th birthday. Having been a beautiful, clear skies day Phil made the impromptu suggestion of taking Remy for a long walk to the waterfront in Liberty State Park before everyone arrived. Suspiciously, Phil had woken up before Molly that morning and cleaned the apartment (of which Molly was planning to do before their guests arrived). Since that was taken care of, she agreed to the walk. Approaching the waterfront, Phil got oddly quiet and checked his phone rather frequently. Then all of sudden, BAM! Phil got a leg cramp*. Stretching his leg on a snowbank, Molly wondered "what the heck is going on" as he continued to ferociously text on his phone. Wildly confused, Molly waited for Phil's leg cramp to pass and even offered to call an Uber due to the dire situation. Remy (unconcerned) licked snow from the snowbank the entirety of the medical emergency. Checking his phone one more time, Phil miraculously recovered from his cramp and insisted on continuing down to the water. As Molly and Phil neared the Hudson River, she noticed a group of people sitting on benches overlooking the city. Phil said, "Remy, look at all of those people!" prompting Molly to look closer. She then recognized her father, her brother (who lives in Charlotte, NC by the way), the rest of her family, Phil's parents, and their best friends, Ari + Greg! Everyone hugged and yelled "happy birthday!". Just as Molly turned around to find Phil, he was down on one knee and said there was one more surprise! Once Molly's hands stopped shaking, she finally said yes + everyone went back to Molly and Phil's to celebrate! *The leg cramp was a stalling mechanism to buy time for some late attendees ;)
