For us, the debate was settled at inception. Back in 2015, Sierra was hosting a party at a grungy coop. Tomás, who lived at said coop, was bartending and saw Sierra walk in the room. In that moment, time stopped and a force drew his attention to her, a star to its moon. At the end of the night, Tomás noticed Sierra standing in a hallway after having cleaned up. He saw his chance. In two quick strides, he was directly in front of her, introducing himself and peppering her with question after question. Sierra would later claim she was standing with her friends. Tomás remembered only her in an empty hall. The interaction lasted only minutes, yet shifted the course of their lives forever. A mutual friend, Juan, happened to be in the room nearby as this new orbit was sparked. He, too, saw the magnetism of the interaction and decided to act on the behalf of fate's guiding hand. Juan set Tomás and Sierra up on a blind date for the following weekend. There, they would begin the rest of their lives as they proceeded to spend every day and every night together for the remaining weeks of the school year, locked fully in the grip of limerance as they forgot to eat and lost the need to sleep while they spent hour after hour after hour getting to know one another. Or, perhaps, catching up with their other half they'd known all along. In the over six years which have followed, Sierra and Tomás have forged the foundation of their relationship. Like blacksmiths at the forge, they've glowed in burning fire and cooled in cleansing water, riding the highs and lows that define one's twenties. They've gone through that formative gauntlet to emerge in their current life, building their first home in Emeryville upon the hard-won foundation that will carry them well into the future.
