There are few things so beautiful as a friendship that blossoms into true love, and the story of how the Hilgemans came together is no different. After four years of platonic observation, casual conversation, and being “really good friends” a light turned into a spark as Sierra realized she had developed a crush on her future husband. ​She kept these feelings secret from everyone except her mother for a full year, after which she confided in a close friend. Confiding in her friend made her realize that the spark had become a flame. She was in love!! It was another year before this growing flame was brought to Michael's attention. Sierra shared her feelings with another trusted friend, and this friend chose to take matters into their own hands by asking Michael if he felt for Sierra in the way that she felt for him. Having been so focused on his own growth and walk with the Lord, Michael had not yet realized that this growing flame had spread to him. However, upon being asked, it became clear to Michael that what he was preparing himself for had been in front of him the entire time. They were in love!! ​It was another six months of prayer and self-reassurance before Michael put his heart on the line and asked Sierra if she wanted to become his girlfriend. And finally, after fourteen months of courting, Michael got down on his knee on a beautiful morning in central Oregon and asked Sierra to be his wife. You do not need my help to know what she said… ​This brings our story to the present as they look back on years of praying for one another and forward to a life filled with bliss, purpose, and service to the God who perfectly made them for each other. ​We are all marvelously blessed to witness them as they ride towards the sunset and watch there forever start now. ​
