Sierra & Maxim like to think that their story is a little more romantic than other Tinder success stories. Sierra was living at her parents house in Malibu between travels in December 2017 while Max was just over the hill in Woodland Hills visiting his parents for the Holidays. Like many single young adults in the digital age, Sierra & Max were both swiping on Tinder looking for a potential partner. For those who do not know how Tinder works, when you sign up for the app you have to pick a few photos & write a few words about yourself (name, age, career, etc.). Then, when you see someone you like: you swipe right; if they don't suite your fancy: you swipe left. If the person you liked likes you back, you're a match! Once you've matched, you're free to chat on Tinder & go from there! One fateful night, Sierra was swiping on Tinder as usual. Seeing some people who interested her & some who didn't. But, no profile appealed to Sierra quite like Max's. Not only was he a cute face, but all of his photos were of him either in: Japan, Yosemite or Santa Cruz. If you know anything about Sierra, these are three of the most meaningful places to her. She was literally giddy with excitement because she had never seen a profile so perfectly catered to her! So without a second thought, she swiped right... and there was no match! As a female presenting individual on Tinder, the unfortunate truth is that she was used to instant matches. She was devastated! She had never wanted a match so badly! Max's profile was now lost to the internet ether of Tinder & there was nothing she could do about it, except to wait. Max, being a male presenting individual, was not as used to matches. He had also been spending less time on Tinder than he might normally because he was not in the city he lives in, so meeting someone in LA would not be ideal. But the same night that Sierra had swiped right on him, he decided to swipe while brushing his teeth. Seeing Sierra's profile, he thought she looked very outdoorsy, cute & quirky. After swiping right, he finished brushing his teeth & before he could even get around to messaging her, Sierra had already messaged him. This surprised him because he was not used to matching with people he actually liked, let alone them messaging first (there is an unspoken "tradition" on Tinder of the men reaching out first). They chatted for a couple days before their first date & the rest is history.
