How We MetHow We Met

Left, Right, Love

This loving couple met on January 14th, 2024, while both looking for love, swiping "left and right" on the dating app Hinge. Both were unsure of finding such an imagined love between swipes. For Justin, Sian caught his eye immediately, which resulted in a quick swipe of confidence, curiosity, and waiting. Sian kept Justin waiting for a few days, going back and forth on his profile with a constant voice in her head screaming, "match with him!" This swipe felt more like a spark. For some reason, Sian felt a quick pounding in her chest from a simple tap of interest back. Only this type of skipped heartbeat is made from the soul, letting the rest of the body know that something beautiful connected around it. Sian and Justin only shared a few texts back and forth until Justin asked her if she wanted to FaceTime. Eagerly, Sian couldn't wait to hear the voice of the man who made her heart feel something so unexplainable over a "silly dating app." On January 15th, 2024, everything changed. This couple had their first FaceTime call. Instantly, smiles were contagious, words were easy, and two hearts knew they wanted more of one another. Sian-- a nursing student at the time, uneasy and suddenly yelling, "I have to get off the phone right now, I forgot I have a quiz due in an hour." The clock lost meaning; the moon climbed higher without her noticing. She laughed until her cheeks ached, listened until her heart forgot it had ever been guarded. However, work came first. During the quiz, Sian had her mind on doing the best she could, but was distracted by hurrying to get back to the guy she had literally just met. Before she spoke to him again that night, she took time to open her Bible, to read, to pray, and to ask God if this man was whom she should keep pursuing. She felt this overwhelming sense of peace and healing. Justin grew a bit impatient after one hour grew into two, so he got cozy in bed, overthinking that Sian was not going to call again. However, his doubt was completely wrong when he heard his phone ring. Through the night, voices slipped into each other’s lives until the unknown 2 1/2 hour distance between them blurred. He learned the sound of her laughter before he ever saw her in person. She learned the way he said her name, soft like a promise. The two love birds stayed on the phone that night for 5 hours until 3 am, talking, flirting, forgetting next day responsibilities, and sharing smiles that were felt from the mountains of West Virginia to the backroads of North Carolina. It felt as if they knew each other every moment of their lives. That night, these two shared a mutual feeling of oddly knowing this growing love was "it" for them. They say, when you know...you know. God knew and blessed a broken road that led them together. It started with a left, a right, and then ended in true love. Since then, they’ve been inseparable. Long drives turned into shared weekends, shared weekends into a shared life. She still keeps that first Hinge message saved, and he still swears he knew from that first call. Because sometimes love doesn’t need grand gestures. Sometimes it’s just two people, a little distance, and a feeling that refuses to fade. Ending in "I do." Matthew 19:6
