Maid of Honor
Hailing from 2 different continents, Sia and I met about 25 years ago as aspiring and young business professionals in corporate America. We became fast and best friends. Over the years we have navigated life together and have shared many amazing and significant life experiences. Sia stood as one of my bridesmaids 22 years ago. Our journey as best friends continues and I am honored beyond words to stand as her Matron of Honor at her and John’s union of love.

I met Sia at a bridal shower in her house in Bowie many moons ago, the next day we talked for 4 hours. She has been stalking me since, good thing I like her so I designated myself as her big sister and I have been bossing her since. Our mothers were friends when we were little, but we didn’t know each other then.

My name is Dori. I am Sia's youngest sister (I knooooooow how it looks but my parents have assured me I am in fact the youngest sis). Sia has always acted as a second mom to me. When we were younger her mothering attempts were not super appreciated -I thought she was a smart ass. Now that we are adults, I still think she's a smart ass, but with a lot more class. I have come to appreciate the blessing this trait brings to our family- along with her caring spirit-and I feel blessed to call Sia my sister.

I met Sia on October 20, 2007 at my In laws wedding. I remember the exact date because it was my 17th wedding anniversary.I was introduced to her by my sister Annie and her husband Philip Kibira who lives in Minneapolis, MN where Sia went to school for her first degree, actually my sister hosted Sia’s graduation party at her house. From there on she became my little sister, an Aunt to my sons and a friend forever!!!!

I met Sia in 1992 while attending Bowie State University for my Master's degree. She was sitting in the library studying. I recognized her from my classes, so I walked up, introduced myself, and I believe we sat and talked for hours that day. We've been friends ever since. We've shared many life changing moments with each other: moving, jobs, new cars, kids, etc. So happy and excited to be sharing another big moment in life with her.

Sia and I met when she moved to Bowie Forest. Our paths crossed at a neighbor’s cookout. I think something crazy was happening at the cookout and she and I, being the new kids on the block, not knowing what was going on, walked up to each other, introduced ourselves and started talking. We have been friends ever since. We have shared many of life’s ups and downs, good times and bad times, heartaches and celebrations. It is good friends along life’s pathways that help us appreciate our journey. I am grateful for our friendship and honored to be a part of her special day.

The beautiful Sia is my first cousin. I met Sia in early 1990s when she was visiting Moshi from Switzerland. There was jumuiya (an organized weekly prayers for Roman Catholic) at our house and my late mother asked Sia to come over to help serve drinks to guests. Sia walked dressed elegantly carrying a tray with sodas, she was wearing nice blank pants with aquamarine top and her shoes were black with a gold chains. I kept staring at her thinking, "Wow, my cousin from Geneva," and before I knew what was happening I was taken under her wings and she became my Big Sis. She knows everything before you talk. I mean, don't lie to her, she operates like CIA. She will have everything figured out for you. I am so happy to be part of your big day sis, the wait is over, let's dance. 💃

I wish I could say it was hard to find a picture of me alongside my trusted companion, but that would be a lie (the companion being wine :). Speaking of companion, Sia and I met when I joined our condos social committee over 10 years ago. We quickly realized that we had a bond that could never break us. The love of wine outside of weekend happy hours. Be it a Tuesday night or Wednesday night, all I had to do was call her, go down to the third floor to her apartment and we have a night of venting and bonding. I also have another story of how I was going through file video footage of an old African pageant for work and saw...wait...is that? Yes, I saw Sia. But that's a story for another time. I only have 800 characters. :)
