Shoshanna and Jared met on October 1st, 2017. Some might call it an uneventful meeting. She had just moved to Portland, Oregon the week before to pursue a Doctorate degree. Without knowing anybody Shoshanna set out to set up her new life in Portland, which by her estimation would last the length of the academic program and one day. Of course, what is the first thing that people do when they move to a new city? Find a church home... right? Well maybe not, but for Shoshanna, it was her first priority. How does one go about finding a new church in a new city? According to Shoshanna: "I looked for Churches of Christ that were near public transportation. I needed the easiest route." Mallory Avenue Church of Christ would do the trick. Jared moved to Portland, Oregon in July of 2016 to accept a job opportunity at Nike headquarters. While he tried out a few other churches before settling into Mallory, he settled quite nicely after a time. He began to become more and more involved in the church and accepted an invitation to teach the Sunday morning Bible class. It was during one of these Sunday morning classes that Shoshanna walked into Mallory Avenue and they laid eyes on each other. You may not believe in love at first sight, and Jared and Shoshanna would not try and convince you otherwise. What they would tell you is that there was... something. There was something about that first meeting that struck both of them. You can ask them exactly what went through their heads at that moment, but according to someone in the class: "Jared was teaching and then he stopped, and sort of stumbled over what he was going to say. I looked back and saw that someone new had just walked into the class, and she was what caused him to stumble." Shoshanna will tell you when walking into a church she picked out of convience she felt something in her spirit towards the Bible class teacher. That feeling sparked a friendship that grew into a love directed by God himself.
