Our First Date

October 12, 2017

Shoshana and Andy first met on a date at Starbucks in Allston, after a long few weeks of messaging back and forth on an online dating app for Jewish young professionals. When Andy saw Shoshana walking into the Starbucks, he could tell that she had this calm, cool, and collected confidence about her and he was instantly intrigued. They sat across from one another near the sun-lit window and had a great conversation about their backgrounds, experiences living in Boston, and other important items. Andy was hopeful Shoshana would be interested in a second date and after some convincing, she agreed to see him again and the rest was history!

The Proposal

Nov. 2, 2018

On an unseasonably warm Friday in November, two of Shoshana's students had an appointment to meet with her in the late afternoon. Andy had been out of town on business and Shoshana was expecting him to meet her at MIT Hillel that evening, as she was staffing Shabbat Dinner, on campus. Shoshana's students requested they take advantage of the nice weather and walk along the Charles River. She thought, "What a great idea" and off they went. As they approached the MIT Sailing Pavilion, the students suggested they walk through and sit by the water. Shoshana thought "What a great idea!" and inside they went. As they walked through the doors, out the other side, Shoshana caught a glimpse of someone holding a large poster that read "Will you marry me?" She thought wistfully "aww, how nice...someone's getting proposed to....::Sigh::" [subtext: when will it be me...::sigh::] Shoshana then caught sight of another person holding a cell phone, poised to capture the moment. Looking closer, she realized "Oh! I know that student! ...I know the student holding the sign too!" It was then that Shoshana's head turned to the right and her eyes settled on Andy, standing 20 feet in front of her on the dock, cool, collected, and calm as can be. And she realized, "EieieiIEIe - oh em gee - this is for ME?!!!" Shoshana ran into Andy's open arms, shouting "Yes!" - Andy wrapped her up in his arms, and as he set her down, said "I have to ask you first!" Andy got down on one knee and proposed!
