One of Shirley's favorite natural wine producers in the area -- Jean-Pierre Robinot is an absolute legend! We recommend a guided tour through Atlantic Loire Valley tours. To read about this winemaker: https://zrswines.com/wine-producer/domaine-de-lange-vin/
We highly recommend this wine tour agency (they have English speaking guides). You can join one of their regular tours, or customize an itinerary for your group. We suggest: - The "1/2 Day Sampler Tour" is a nice bite-sized option, - Shirley recommends their "Chenin Blanc Tour" which is focused around Vouvray and Amboise - The "Best Reds Tour" is focused on Chinon and Bourgueil - If timing works, their "Harvest Time Tour" is an extra special treat!
Le Mans is famous for "rillettes" -- a type of delectable pork pâté. Charcuterie Wiest is the best place to taste this regional specialty. Ask for the "les rilletes du Mans en pots" - and if you're feeling adventurous, try their boudin blanc and boudin noir!
For those with an interest in history, the old town of Le Mans is a beautifully preserved medieval quarter, characterized by cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and Renaissance mansions. Notable sites include the Gallo-Roman walls and the birthplace of Henry II of England.
If you're exploring the area before or after our wedding, we highly recommend a stop at D'une île, a bed-and-breakfast style country retreat with an impeccable restaurant! This is about an hour from Grand-Luce (towards Paris). We stayed (and ate a lot!) here on our first international vacation together :)
