We met at the Ohio Statehouse on the first day of the 132nd General Assembly. In laymen's terms, that means two years ago! We introduced ourselves and didn't think much of it. A few weeks go by and we have our first real conversation at a work happy hour. We shared a beer together and laughed a lot. Our visits between each others' offices increased and one infamous day, we were walking out of work together when I asked Kevin if he had plans for the weekend. He replied by saying he was going home to watch TV with his pants off. I WAS HOOKED!
To mark the new chapter of our love story, I wanted to ask Sarah to marry me in a way that incorporated where we met and something new. I knew she had a love for musicals that was passed down by her grandparents, so I thought what better way than to ask her on the night we had tickets for Hamilton. Lucky for me, the Statehouse was across from the theater, which made me confident I could pull the plan off. When the night finally arrived, Sarah and I left our home—after I triple checked that her ring was in my coat pocket. We arrived at the Statehouse to park and began walking to dinner. Unbeknownst to Sarah, I had planned our route to dinner the day before with a photographer who was now sitting at a bench nearby ready to capture the moment. As we neared the Statehouse sun dial, I dropped to my knee, removed the ring box from my coat, opened it, and then asked the most important question of my life. The rest is history.
