How We Met

Erin and Jacob met in 8th grade French class (2008!) and bonded over the ups and downs of middle school life. Jacob was the cute, funny new student in school that year and quickly caught Erin's eye. They spent the next few months exchanging homework answers, making fun of teachers, and having fun in group projects. Toward the end of the school year as summer break approached, they agreed to hang out and grab McFlurries over the summer. After the middle school graduation ceremony, minutes before students boarded the buses for the last time that year, Jacob got up some nerve and walked over to Erin. He asked, "Do you want to go out with me?" Erin obviously said yes since she'd had a crush on this cute new guy for months. So of course they immediately went home and changed their Myspace relationship statuses, and "boyfriend-girlfriend" status became official... These were simpler times! Jacob and Erin were inseparable throughout high school and college years. They graduated from high school and went to JMU together too! Fast forward a few years, and Erin goes to grad school and Jacob starts his career in Northern Virginia. They made the most of a long-distance relationship for a couple years and continued having weekend adventures as often as they could! After Erin finished grad school, she moved to Northern Virginia to be with Jacob. Soon after, they added a new roommate to the mix- Ollie! A few years later, Erin and Jacob bought a house for their feline friend and migrated a few miles west to the mountains of VA!

The Proposal

After months of being cooped up, Erin and Jacob took a much needed vacation to the Great Smoky Mountains in October 2020. They spent the day after their arrival hiking for hours and enjoying well-earned tacos and beer. After that, they decided to go for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway to watch the sunset from an overlook. They hiked to the top of Craggy Pinnacle outside of Asheville and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. Jacob knew it was the perfect moment to get on one knee and pop the question. Erin said YES! and they celebrated their engagement in typical low-key fashion by grabbing some Campbell's soup from the grocery store for dinner. The rest is history!
