They say every great story starts with a bit of magic and a lot of timing. For Leon Horton IV and Shia Hendricks, that story began in the heart of Birmingham. Two high school kids with bright smiles and even brighter futures, going their separate ways with no idea of the Good Times ahead. Life took both of them to A Different World. Shia made her mark at Spelman College, and Leon found his stride first at the University of Alabama and later at Howard University. They were growing, glowing, and learning who they were meant to be, all while the city that raised them waited patiently in the background. Fast forward to June 2023, while they were Living Single, Leon came home for a quick visit before heading to Florida. One conversation reignited a spark, but the real plot twist came during Thanksgiving 2023, when he returned again — and this time, the connection stuck like a theme song you never forget. From that moment on, their Love Jones became a long-distance masterpiece — full of laughter, late-night calls, and heartfelt faith. On May 23, 2025, atop Red Mountain beneath the watchful gaze of Vulcan, the guardian of Birmingham, Leon proposed. With the city lights glowing beneath them, they promised to continue writing their love story together. Though their love has grown across miles and state lines, Birmingham has always been the backdrop to their love story. It’s where they first met, where their bond was renewed, and where Leon asked Shia to be his forever. Theirs is a Birmingham love story—rooted in faith, strengthened by distance, and celebrated in the place where it all began.
