Washington, D.C. is accessible via the metro system. Trains run daily throughout D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Most of the area's attractions are metro accessible. Riders will need to purchase a SmarTrip card and load money onto it in order to enter the metro. One way fares vary between $1.85 and $6, depending on the time of day and distance traveled. You can reduce the distance to three miles by skipping the Jefferson Memorial. You will end up on the National Mall. Many of the Smithsonian Museums line either side of the Mall with the Capitol on the far end.
