Chang and Shelly first met at the wedding of their close friends, Taylor and Jessica Meagher, in October 2019. Even though they both had dates to the wedding, Chang knew there was something special about Shelly. There was an instant connection, even while he was making fun of her and her North Carolina Tar Heels. After the wedding, Chang broke up with his girlfriend and asked Taylor about Shelly. Taylor said she was in a relationship, but that didn’t deter Chang, and for good reason, because soon after, Shelly was single, too. Their first date was on October 10, 2020, almost one year after they had first met. Chang knew then and there that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Shelly, but she had not yet reached the same conclusion. Despite that, Chang told Shelly that she was worth the wait and knew that if they were meant to be, things would work out. Little did Chang know that he would have to wait over a year and a half, but, in May of 2022, he received a text from Shelly, asking if he wanted to play tennis. Chang knew that Shelly was interested again, and for good reason, because Shelly realized what she was missing. He was unable to make the tennis date, but, soon after, Chang took Shelly out for an amazing, 9 course dinner, and, despite being very full after, it felt as if they had been dating for years. They continued dating over the summer and even traveled to Puerto Vallarta where they talked about love and the future... Chang and Shelly share a passion for travel and soon planned a vacation to Italy. Meanwhile, Chang purchased a ring and had plans to ask Shelly’s father, Chuck, for her hand in marriage. He got his chance the night before their journey to Italy, and Chuck shook his hand, gave his blessing and said, “Welcome to the family!” Chang threw Shelly off the scent by telling her he had yet to ask for her dad’s permission. Chang had several ideas and amazing locations to choose from for the proposal, but he decided to ask her on the first leg of the trip, on a wine tour in Montalcino. Only 8 people were on the tour, and since Shelly hates surprises and being the center of attention, it was the perfect choice. At the third stop of the tour, Podere Le Ripi Winery, Shelly and Chang were at the top of a mountain with beautiful panoramic views of the vineyard and Tuscany. Shelly asked for sunscreen, which Chang grabbed from his bag, along with the ring! He signaled to the tour group, who he had recruited earlier to take photos, that this was the moment. He applied the sunscreen, and when she turned to thank him, he was on one knee and told her that she was the most important person in his life and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. She said, “Yes!” and the rest is history. Now, they are on their journey to becoming husband and wife….
