Bride
The most beautiful, funny, kind, caring, thoughtful, fearless and clever wife in the world. I’m so grateful to call her my wife. Shelly is a loyal, supportive and outgoing best friend. She can brighten anyone’s day and make even the grumpiest Librarian burst into laughter. She helps others and is generous. She does not tolerate bullying or people taking advantage of others around her and when I mean she does not tolerate it, I mean the bully really should stop unless they are prepared to fight an ex IDF soldier with a fiery temper. All who know Shelly feel a fierce loyalty to her and we would follow her because we trust her. Shelly is so grateful that you can come to our wedding!
Bride
That’s me! I’m known for being feisty, kind and a bit in my own world. I’m grateful that you are coming to our wedding! It means SO much to us!
Best Man
He’s not only hilariously funny, he’s also kind and loyal to his older sister, Shelly. While she may be the cause of the tiny scare above his right eye (when she practiced Judo on him as a child), when you cross Shelly, you’ve crossed Shalev. He has a natural humor and he brightens everyone’s day. He is also a soon to be graduate engineer student who plans to enter into construction. Watch out LY Green Construction! Better get used to the overseas competition. Shalev has the unique honor of being Shelly’s Best Man.
Maid of Honor
This young powerhouse of a musician and singer/songwriter or song-catcher also happens to be Carly’s sister. Needless to say, her expert organizational, teacher-skills have really come in handy over the years (especially last year) and she’s still a little burst of sunshine. Loyal to the bone and blessed with quick wit and lyrical phrases, she has the distinct role of being Carly’s Maid of Honor.
Mother of the Bride
Mama Ema Naomi is a loving and supportive mother to all who know her. Her encouraging words, her generosity and her caring nature are calming to people and to the small children she teaches. Naomi is also an amazing cook. She is generally interested in others and she tries to include everyone. When Shelly calls her mom, no matter how rough the day, Naomi can sense what’s troubling her and she reaffirms that Shelly is making the right decisions. Naomi prays for wellness for all of her friends and family and anyone she’s heard of who needs support every Saturday. Naomi has made a few less than subtle hints about wanting to be a grandma (which is far away for us haha). Good thing we are making our wedding official (again). We are so happy Ema could make it to our wedding!
Mother of the Bride
Mama Meggie is the bell of the ball with her happy and fun enthusiasm. Whether it’s Cabo for Carly’s surprise birthday party where she became the mama hen of thirty, tipsy bachelorette girls or the pool party in the backyard, Meggie can’t help but be an inspiring and supportive listening ear. She reminds people to be themselves and celebrates them with her open and accepting nature. Meggie is creative, clever, intuitive and spiritually in tune; she never gives up. She’s been a wonderful social worker to many foster youth and encouraged them to reach their potential. Despite a serious knee injury in which all of her ligaments were torn, she has managed to push herself to her miraculous recovery and she continues to defy the odds. We are grateful for Mama Meggie and her optimistic support.
Father of the Bride
Papa Jack or Superman Jack as Shelly calls him is always leading the charge with the next creative venture whether it be a Native American musical complete with songs that are historically accurate, a new documentary, tv series or film camp for Native youth. On the latest film set he participated in, Intrepidus, the calls of “Jack” were used widely to solve all manner of problems. My favorite was where a wall had been nailed shut and needed to be opened during a film scene. Jack arrived with his battery operated hand held saw and remedied the issue immediately. Papa Jack has been a supportive and caring father and we are happy to share this memory with him.
Brother of the Bride Levy
Shlomi has been Shelly’s older brother and co-conspirator since they were little and did everything together. Whether playing soccer, or getting into mischief, Shlomi has covered and been Shelly’s back up or in some cases her get out of trouble card since most would not like to upset Shlomi. Shlomi flew out during corona to support Shelly during the first mini wedding. He has a loving heart and connected strongly with the Kohlerleenut family. We were grateful that Shlomi could be a part of our mini wedding and we are happy he can join us this year as well whether that be in person or virtually.
Brother of the Bride Kohler
Cordero has been a supportive brother to Carly. He is understanding, kind, loving, perceptive, detail oriented and helpful. Whether it’s guiding Carly and Shelly in dancing for the first dance, dancing and partying in Cabo, singing Same Love (despite hating public speaking) for the mini wedding, offering to back Carly in confronting Forestville neighbors or being a listening ear, Cord is down for the the ride and generally easy going. He is also a calming and supportive presence for both brides. We are so grateful that Cord can be at our wedding!
Officiant
Ilan has been Carly’s close friend since high school when they played on the high school basketball team and were in the honors classes with their group of friends. Ilan’s carefree openness and strong moral compass are qualities Carly appreciates and respects in Ilan. Ilan is friends with many and accepts people for who they are. Over the years, Carly and Ilan have remained friends: calling each other up to play basketball with Joe Manuel at Stanford, meeting at Standing Rock to support water protectors against the Dakota Access Pipeline and recently when Ilan (sometimes with Jonathan) visited Roseville to set up Shelly and Carly’s garden, making it more homey. Ilan, as a life long friend, understands Carly and Shelly inside and out. We are so honored Ilan agreed to officiate us!
Officiant Opener and Closer
Adam is not only Shelly’s long term roommate and her current bay area roommate, he also is a stead-fast, witty, kind and supportive friend to her. Adam’s curiosity in others and the world is infectious and he makes even the most mundane tasks interesting. Adam also knows both Shelly and I very well as the three of us go on long walks and share meals when Adam visits and during holidays. Adam has the ability to make you feel supported and listened to while also offering honest feedback and insightful revelations. Adam sees Shelly and I fully; our flaws, strengths and how we fit together as a couple. We are so grateful for Adam to be our officiant opener and closer.
Interpreter
Sam is one of Shelly’s closest friends. They have known each other for the last seven years. Shelly and Sam used to party together in San Francisco during her single days. Sam, for all his dark humor and slicing come backs, has been Shelly’s steadfast friend and someone she has often turned to. Sam is a huge movie buff and a perfect person to call to go to the movies with (although apparently I am not so he always threatens to put Shelly between us). Sam can be counted on to share his honest opinion. Sam recently joined Shelly and Jamal for a fishing trip and Jamal really enjoyed showing Sam and his girlfriend Jessica his fishing routine. We are grateful that Sam can interpret our wedding for us and act as our interpreter.
Ring Bearer
Jamal or Jamalico as we call him is our little nugget. We are happy when he spends time with us each month and we love his little mischievous smile. Jamal is a helpful boy and he is used to guiding adults to their destinations. We try to show him what it’s like having adults guiding him such as off of youtube during zoom school and he’s not always so fond of the experience. Jamal loves fishing and cooking fish or making ceviche. He enjoys playing his Roblox video games and beating us all at paintball. Jamal and Korra have a special bond and they can entertain each other for hours with their playfulness. Jamal is kind and considerate. He loves the word “literally.” We are very happy to be in Jamal’s life.
Ring Bearer
Maayan is a beautiful girl and she’s very sweet and considerate of others. She knows what she wants and she knows how to get it. She is determined. Maayan is beloved of her uncle and Shelly as she is the first niece in the family. She is Shelly’s Tut-seek. She likes slime and swimming. She can sing songs from Moana beautifully. We are so happy that Maayan can celebrate with us whether that be in person or virtually!
MCs
Our wonderful friends Bar and Barbara are very close to us. They are funny, sweet, loving and supportive. We love spending weekends with them and it’s so nice that they are not bothered by directness, they don’t need to be entertained and they always chip in with the cooking making us delicious meals. It’s easy to get along with Bar and Barbara and we always have a great time!
Flower Girl
Liron and Assi’s girls, Yuval, Le-el and Arbel, have been close to Shelly since they were very little. Shelly enjoys hugging and tickling them and Carly likes playing cards with them. Now there is a third little Liron who our dog Korra can not get enough of. We are overjoyed that these little munchkins can be our flower girls.
Carly’s Bridespeople
Kaya Peterson, Becca Krauthamer, Alana Ilan Fichman, Jenn Lyman, Joe Paul Manuel, Omar Rodriguez, Brenna Sheldon, Sarah Germini, Indya Green, Charlotte Willens, Alex LaForce, Catalina Angel and Nicole Shields have been amazingly supportive and loving friends to me. I appreciate them for not only being beautiful people inside and out but for also making amazing changes in their work in the community (audiologist, AI tech wiz, Social Worker/Rabbi in training, Psychiatrist, Judge/Drummer/Dancer, IT Project Manager, California Environmental Protection Agency, Cliffbar/Air Force Pilot, Green Buildings Technology Manager, Green Waste Management Educator for First People’s on Reserves, ER Doctor). I feel fortunate to have such wonderful friends! I know they’ve helped shape who I’ve become. ♥️
Shelly’s Haimshelies
Adam, Sam, Ofri, Maria, Oshri, Bar, Barbara, Raya, Sapir, Lilu and more: These buddies of Shelly, her haimshelies, have been solid friends; coming to her aid when needed, backing her up, playing poker, partying, swimming in the pool, going on camping trips, skiing, nice walks and other shenanigans throughout her life. We know they will be future aunty and uncles when we get to that point in our lives when we want to have kids and that they will celebrate many milestones with us on our journey together. Shelly is so grateful to her haimshelies who’ve been by her side through thick and thin and who’ve also pushed her to laugh and have a blast too. We are grateful that they can be here with us whether in person or virtually to celebrate this special occasion. 🥰
