Alex’s version: I first met Shelby at a basketball tournament in howard Lake while coaching her little brother John. A few years or so later, I had to ask John for her number. Once I got her number, we had an instant connection. Calling each other all the time. I finally got the courage to ask her out on a date, and after many tries, she finally said yes. Since that first date we have been best friends ever since. I asked her to marry me under the Christmas lights in St Paul. Best decision I've ever made. Shelby’s version: I first saw Alex when he was coaching John in basketball, where I told my mom I was gonna marry that man. Many years and boyfriends passed, but I was always convinced we would find our way to eachother. Meanwhile John and Alex remained in contact and Alex turned into almost an older brother for John. Eventually one night, shortly before I was leaving for college, Alex told John to give me his number. I accepted it… of course, but we remained good friends and Alex was a supporter for me throughout my first semester. He was the victim of many drunk calls, but always seemed to understand me! It wasn’t until I came home for break that Alex was angling to take me on a date. After three times of ghosting him when we had plans (because I was nervous!) I finally said yes, but only if he picked me up. And the rest is history! He asked me to marry him right before Christmas, and even though I might have seen it coming, it was the best surprise ever!
