Jacob and Shelby first met in NYC’s Bowery neighborhood at an apartment party in late 2020 (if you know, you know) - that’s right, even COVID couldn’t keep us apart. Jacob swears he can still picture the dress Shelby was wearing when he first saw her, though Shelby remembers differently. As with a lot of things in their relationship, they’re happy to agree to disagree on this one. After several group hangouts, including a proper introduction to Shelby’s Cleveland roots during the Browns first playoff game in 18 years, Jacob was able to successfully sell Shelby on a first date in his very first apartment on 28th street. Nearly 5 years, 2 apartments, one Zumi, and countless moments of joy later, Jacob proposed in the West Village on a rainy day in May 2025 under the guise of a dinner at Jacob and Shelby’s favorite restaurant in NYC. Once the ring came out, the tears were shed, and Shelby said yes, her very next words were “wait, so we’re not going to Scalinatella?”. This is perhaps the perfect illustration of their relationship: enjoying the moment, but with so much to look forward to.
