Jace has worked Christmas every year since we began dating in 2015. Christmas Eve also happens to be Jace's birthday. We've spent many birthdays and Christmas' apart. This year I was told it would be the same old same old; he has to work while I go to MI to see family. I pack my bags and fly home on Christmas Eve. After Mom and Dad scoop me up from the airport we head in the direction of China Cafe. Before we get to the restaurant my mom says she wants to stop by the Christmas display in Northville. I think nothing of it and oblige to the idea of a family photo. Downtown was surprisingly quiet but packed with cars; everyone downtown was attending Christmas Eve mass . My Dad drove in front of the square to look for parking. He drove suspiciously slow by the tree. I didn't notice since I was tired and hungry. As we make a pass in front of the tree I notice that Santa is standing in the square. I exclaim "hey! Santa is in the Square.. he's by himself.. that's kind of creepy.." Somehow my parents keep their composure. We round the corner and I convince my dad to take a Handicapped spot for the picture. We exit the vehicle and my parents joke that I should go get a picture with Santa. I giggle and reply "no way". I approach the tree and can see Santa heading my direction... I try to dodge him . He circles back and stops me. He tells me he has a gift for me; I nervously ask "a gift for me?" he responds "gifts for everyone!" and hands me a card. I opened it nervously; it had a cute little elf and it said "Merry Christmas" but it was crossed out with "Will you marry me?" Somehow I am still aloof to the situation and say "oh, that's a good one..." thinking that I am getting hit on by a strange Santa. Jace goes down on a knee and it all clicks. The first thing out of my mouth was "SHUT UP!"; how romantic right? Of course I say yes and the rest is history! Please join us for an unforgettable celebration in the Black Hills.
