A guy from the backwoods of Washington/Idaho and a gal from rural Nevada meet through mutual connections in 2023, confirming what a small world it really is. We had our first date in Lovelock, NV after he asked me out for coffee one February weekend. In early March, Skylar miraculously recovered from an ATV wreck and that incident brought us closer together, given God’s divine planning. We started dating then, yet kept it long-distance (I was still working in Sacramento, CA and Skylar was residing in Lovelock with his newer job). We took turns visiting each weekend we could until I officially moved back home to northern Nevada in December 2023. It’s never not an adventure together. The morning of a long-awaited vacation, the dogs were sprayed by a skunk at dawn. Skylar and I spent a few hours washing Buster and Rebel before embarking out to Jarbridge, NV to join friends for the weekend. As the excessive planner, I wanted to leave by 7 a.m. and the critter fiasco had us on the road hours later, which confirmed Skylar’s nonchalant attitude about trip itineraries– however he did have one little thing planned. The hindrance was the perfect ordeal to test one’s true relationship, but I had no idea this frustrating incident would further seal the deal in his mind. The weekend was spent driving side-by-sides on the backroads and enjoying the stellar views of northern Nevada. On the afternoon of July 19, 2024 during our last joyride of the day, Skylar gave me a view I’ll never forget: him on one knee with a gorgeous green ring in his hand. For months, Skylar teased me about needing to tie his unlaced boots on each hike we took. I almost didn't believe this moment. Our friends were totally in on it and helped make the surprising moment that more special, especially with complimentary photos to capture the magic. Once back home, Skylar bought a skunk pelt at a local county fair that’s now hanging in our garage to forever commemorate the occasion. As we countdown to September, we are so excited and grateful to share this special day with all of our loved ones! Here's to a lifetime of love and more adventures together... and hopefully fewer skunks.
