When we first started talking, we both bonded over our love for travel. Fun fact: Both of us share the same favorite city: Barcelona, Spain! Our goal is to visit there again together. A couple of months into our relationship, we decided we wanted to go to Mexico City and then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and we had to cancel our plans for two years. Eventually, we decided that we had to press on and go to our first international trip together. We decided to celebrate Manraj's birthday in Greece by visiting Athens, relaxing on some islands, making our way up to Thessaloniki, where Jaswant's dad lived at one point. On August 16, 2021, we arrived in Athens at 10 am. And since we had an overnight flight, we spent most of the day sleeping when we got to our hotel. At 5 pm, Manraj wakes up and says hurry hurry we are late and have a dinner reservation we are going to miss. But alas, I am a slow poke regardless of how fast I am trying to move. Surprisingly, Manraj doesn't rush me. We head over to dinner at Dionysus with an amazing view of the Parthenon. After dinner, we "decided" to take a walk through the park that surrounds the Acropolis where the Parthenon sits. For those of you who don't know, "Acropolis" translates to "highest edge" meaning that the Parthenon sits upon a very tall hill. Meanwhile, I am huffing and pulling walking up said hill in heels not anticipating that we'd be doing this. While holding my hand on this little stroll, Manraj asked me why my hands were so sweaty. I think he thought I was on to him, but really it was just really hot haha. (Truthfully, I figured he would propose on this trip, but wasn't actually sure when and definitely did not expect it on the very first day of vacation and on his birthday). Eventually, we made it up the hill to the overlook across from the Parthenon. When we reached the top, I took matters into my own hands directing Manraj as to where we should be standing for the best view, but Manraj said "No! That's the wrong way!" and encouraged me to come to the other side. And that's when Manraj got down on one knee and at that point I was stunned! Manraj had to wait for me to answer (which was obviously yes!!), but I couldn't get the words to come out of my mouth. Meanwhile, Manraj had some professional photographers ready to capture it all. The moment was too perfect and I am one lucky girl.
