Jurassic Park was filmed here...but that's just the tip of this marvelous iceberg. Kualoa Ranch is one of the most scenic places on the island, and always tops the list for me in terms of "must see" on Oahu. Whether or not you like movie sets (and this place has hosted hundreds of them), participating in a tour here will serve up the most breathtaking views of your trip. Aside from Hollywood and Jurassic tours, available activities include horseback riding, ATV tours, ziplining, ocean mini-cruises, and an unbeatable beach experience on "Secret Island". P.S. >> "Secret Island" is neither a secret nor an island...but you'll cross an ancient fishpond to a secluded beach for SUP (stand-up-paddleboarding), kayaking, outrigger canoeing, and playing on a sandbar in the middle of a bay. I've been on this tour twice and still want to go back. *Some tours here book out far in advance. If you wanna ride the horses, book them now. Literally now.*
This is art collection is one of the best things you can experience here. Formerly the home of tobacco heiress Doris Duke, this oceanfront mansion is now a museum run by the Honolulu Museum of Art (HOMA). Doris amassed a collection of Islamic art from numerous countries with diverse styles, imported impressive tile mosaics and even a 13th century mosque door, one of a handful still in existence. Visits are by tour only--book through HOMA. BOOK AHEAD.
Where was this photo taken, you ask? Byodo-In is a picturesque Japanese Buddhist temple nestled in the mountains, and happens to be where we went on our first date in Hawaii! It's lovely--see for yourself :).
This is an ethereal valley on the North Shore known as the "Valley of the Priests"
Looking for a luau? This one comes with a theme park, showcasing different Polynesian cultures, each as a village of its own. An extensive luau buffet and show is available at night; however, since this park is organized by the Mormon church, you won't find any alcohol here. Luaus with alcohol available include virtually every other luau on the island. For a similar experience with less sobriety, check out the Chief's Luau.
