We first met through mutual friends, and what started as a spark grew into six wonderful years of love, laughter, traveling the world and building a life together. In 2024, our journey took an unexpected turn when Shay became seriously ill and spent several months in the hospital. Shay’s unexpected illness turned our lives upside down. The only thing that would save his life would be a double lung transplant. Though we had always planned to marry, life reminded us that love doesn’t wait—so we exchanged our vows in the ICU at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. 48 hours later, Shay went into surgery for a double lung transplant. His surgery was a success and one year later, he is thriving—living a full, active, and joy-filled life. Through this experience, we’ve gained a deeper appreciation for each other, for love, and for the incredible support of family and friends who stood by us.
