Getting to Bacalar

There are 2 ways to get to Bacalar, it’s a must to fly there. 2 airports: Chetumal, approximately 25 mins from Bacalar and Cancun, approximately 4 hours from Bacalar (Tulum is also an option about 2 hours closer but it is much more expensive for now). If you’re wondering why we present an option like Cancun, it’s due to having no direct flights to Chetumal and that option requiring a longer layover in Mexico City. That’s not necessarily bad as you’ll get a decent amount of time to go explore one of the world’s most beautiful cities. After landing, should you land in Chetumal it’s a short taxi ride to Bacalar. If you decide on Cancun, you may choose to rent a car, take a bus (the bus line in this region of Mexico has busses with reclining seats, a/c, Wi-Fi, and charging ports), or there is a new train system called the Tren Maya that will take you to Bacalar from Cancun. You could also take the train from Chetumal to Bacalar. Definitely check on the train before booking as it is new construction and construction may be (update on the train, its allegedly unavailable for this; if you’re considering Cancun and the train this might not be available) The town is a smaller one, so you can’t go wrong staying anywhere. It depends if you’d like something more quiet or if you’d like to be closer to the town where you can walk to anything. It is mostly a walkable town and taxis never costed us more than 150 pesos (that’s including a tip, approximately $8.75 in USD). We also stayed outside of the town and it was never more than 10 minutes. We estimate you could walk the length of the town in approximately 15 minutes. It’s hard to go wrong on staying anywhere in terms of location and ease of access. The venue is likely a taxi or boat ride, the venue mentioned the taxis in the areas know them well. There is no Uber here. If you rent a car there is parking but be responsible with driving especially after the wedding.

Como llegar a Bacalar/ how to get to bacalar

Hay 2 formas de llegar a Bacalar, es imprescindible volar allí. Dos aeropuertos: Chetumal, a unos 25 minutos de Bacalar, y Cancún, a aproximadamente 4 horas de Bacalar (Tulum también es una opción, a unas 2 horas más cerca, pero es mucho más caro por ahora). Si te preguntas por qué presentamos una opción como Cancún, es debido a la falta de vuelos directos a Chetumal y esa opción requiere una escala más larga en la Ciudad de México. Eso no es necesariamente malo, ya que tendrás un tiempo decente para explorar una de las ciudades más hermosas del mundo. Después de aterrizar, si aterrizas en Chetumal, es un corto viaje en taxi a Bacalar. Si decides ir a Cancún, puedes optar por alquilar un coche, tomar un autobús (la línea de autobuses en esta región de México tiene autobuses con asientos reclinables, aire acondicionado, Wi-Fi y puertos de carga), o hay un nuevo sistema de tren llamado Tren Maya que te llevará de Cancún a Bacalar. También puedes tomar el tren de Chetumal a Bacalar. Asegúrate de verificar el estado del tren antes de reservar, ya que es una construcción nueva y la construcción podría retrasarse. El pueblo es pequeño, así que no te equivocarás al hospedarte en cualquier lugar. Depende de si prefieres algo más tranquilo o estar más cerca del pueblo, donde puedes ir caminando a cualquier lugar. Es en su mayoría un pueblo caminable y los taxis nunca nos costaron más de 150 pesos (eso incluye propina, aproximadamente $8.75 en USD). También nos alojamos fuera del pueblo y nunca estuvimos a más de 10 minutos. Estimamos que podrías recorrer la longitud del pueblo en aproximadamente 15 minutos. Es difícil equivocarse al quedarse en cualquier lugar en cuanto a ubicación y facilidad de acceso. Es probable que el lugar sea accesible en taxi o en barco; mencionaron que los taxis en la zona los conocen bien. No hay Uber aquí. Si alquilas un coche, hay estacionamiento, pero sé responsable al conducir, especialmente después de la boda.
