Question

VISA / Digital Disembarkation Card - MANDATORY

Answer

First, make sure your passport hasn't expired! You will need a tourist visa to travel to India for our wedding and you will need to fill out a Digital Disembarkation Card. This will give you at least 30 days for travel within the country (if you choose) and includes travel to most touristy places, including Amritsar! VISA: You will need to get a 30-day e-Tourist visa online from the Indian consulate website pasted below. These are generally approved within 72 hours. You must apply online a minimum 4 days in advance of the date of arrival. Your dates in India don't need to be exact when filling it out, so give yourself some buffer, especially if you plan to travel before or after the wedding events! You can apply for the Visa here: indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/Registration Digital Disembarkation Card: It is an online arrival form that all foreign travellers (non-Indians) must fill before coming to India. It replaces the physical disembarkation card that used to be filled inside the flight or at the airport. *When to fill it?* It must be completed within 72 hours before your flight to India. Without it, you may face delays or be stopped at immigration. *Where to fill it?* 1. Official Website: indianvisaonline.gov.in/earrival 2. Mobile App: Indian Visa Suswagatam (available in app stores). ⚠ Avoid agents or third-party sites. Always use the official portal/app. *What details will you need?* - Passport information - Visa or e-visa details - Flight details (PNR, airline, seat if available) - Stay address in India (hotel, hospital, or host address) - Health/travel history (basic questions) It is mandatory from 01 Oct 2025 – no card, no entry.

Question

Where should I stay during the wedding?

Answer

We have reserved the entire ITC Raja Sansi hotel in Amritsar and all the venues will either be at the hotel or nearby, so we recommend staying at the hotel so you are close to all the action! We will be reserving hotel rooms for guests, and transportation to and from all wedding events to the hotel will be provided. More to follow after RSVPs for reserving a room.

Question

What is the expected attire for each wedding events and where is the best place to shop?

Answer

We will have attire specified for each event on the "Schedule" page. You can follow this link for a powerpoint we created with detailed, recommended outfit ideas/colors for each event - https://tinyurl.com/4v99k2tp. Western clothes will also be appropriate for most events. At Indian weddings, the more bright and colorful, the better! For traveling within India, casual everyday attire is great. That said, we'd recommend women avoid sleeveless tops and shorter skirts / shorts around major tourist attractions. You won't have any issues, but you may get some stares!

Question

When should we arrive in Amritsar / plan on leaving?

Answer

To arrive on time for the first event of the week, you should plan to arrive in Amritsar by the morning of Wednesday, November 26th or any time on Tuesday, November 25th! The first event will begin on Wednesday, November 26th at 2pm. We will work with the hotel to ensure that all attendees can check-in at any time they arrive on either Tuesday or Wednesday. For those that arrive early on Tuesday, November 25th, we encourage you to visit the "Things to Do" page and visit some of the great attractions Amritsar has to offer! The last event will be held at night on Friday the 28th, but will likely go well into the night! Thus, we recommend leaving sometime after 12pm on Saturday, November 29th.

Question

What should I do for transporation?

Answer

For arrival / departure from the Amritsar airport (Sri Guru Ram Das Ji airport), we will be providing transportation to and from the hotel. Our wedding planner will reach out closer to the date to help coordinate for each party based on their planned arrival. Otherwise, Uber is a reliable and cheap option in Amritsar. There will also be transportation provided between all events and the hotel.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

Generally speaking, +1s are for married/engaged couples and long-term relationships, but please reach out to either Shauna or Udai if you have any specific questions.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Generally speaking, in Amritsar in November it will be 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit or 15-25 Celsius. It can get slightly chilly in the early mornings or in the evenings, so we would recommend bringing a layer for those times.

Question

What kind of shoes should / shouldn't I wear?

Answer

There will be a lot of dancing, so if you want to wear heels, we would suggest bringing a pair of backup dancing shoes to show off your dance moves properly! We also recommend bringing a pair of socks to the wedding ceremony as you will be asked to remove your shoes before entering the gurdwara.

Question

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Answer

Combination of outdoor and indoor events. We recommend bringing some sunscreen for the outdoor events as well as light jackets as it can get cool in the evening in late November.

Question

Health questions: Do I need vaccines? Is it safe to drink the water / eat the food?

Answer

Food poisoning is more common when traveling in Asia. However, we think it is easily avoidable as long as you follow the below: Do not drink or brush your teeth with the water. Use bottled water for all water needs. Don't accept drinks with ice outside of our wedding/upscale hotels. Avoid uncooked fruit/vegetables (i.e. mango slices are fine, but avoid eating the skin unless you've washed it yourself in mineral water). You should generally avoid eating street food and stick to local restaurants - don't worry, all the food in Amritsar is outstanding! The food will also generally be spicier than what most folks are used to. Unless you hope to train yourself for an eventual episode on Hot One's, would stick to the mild option. At our wedding, you will be able to eat all the food we serve, as we will make sure everything is washed with mineral water. The main optional vaccine that people get for travel to Asia is for typhoid fever. You can typically get this at any CVS/Walgreens. For the extra prepared, you can request pills in case of food poisoning from your physician. Mention you're traveling to India and they'll know which ones to prescribe. It is also a good idea to bring any commonly used OTC medications with you from the U.S., as pharmacies can be hard to navigate in another country.

Question

Should I bring credit cards / cash?

Answer

Credit cards should work at most places, but it's worth informing your bank about international travel beforehand so they don't suspect fraud. It's worth keeping some cash (~$300, 8000 rupees) on you though for smaller expenses, especially if you plan to do some sightseeing around Amritsar during the wedding. Airports will have an ATM and/or currency exchange.

Question

Whom should I call with questions?

Answer

Please text/call Udai (+1 520-241-7451) or Shauna (+1 520-204-3690) with any questions, as we are happy to help! We can't wait to celebrate with you!!!

Question

Do you have any travel agencies you recommend?

Answer

For those interested in traveling within India before or after the wedding, we have partnered with a local travel agency to help you organize your trip. This is a women-owned and led travel agency that has been used by our friends in India and comes highly recommended. They design private & exclusive tours with local experts in each city who curate the tour, making it a personalized experience for travellers. The tours are a mix of culture, sights, food, and things off the beaten path! They have tours in the cities of Delhi, Agra (Taj Mahal), Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Varanasi, Goa, Bangalore, and Mumbai.
