Flight
We recommend flying to Lisbon's airport, Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) Located 7 km from Lisbon's historic center and 20 km to Sintra. Uber and Bolt are both cheap and reliable options from the airport. There is a train to the city center as well if you packed light!

Travel Note
Getting Around From the Airport: The easiest way to get to the city center is via Uber or Bolt (very affordable here) or the Metro (Red Line). Public Transit: Use the Navegante card for the Metro, buses, and trams. You can also now "tap" your contactless credit card or phone directly at Metro barriers and on many buses. The Iconic Trams: Tram 28 is the famous one! It’s beautiful but often very crowded. Pro Tip: Keep an eye on your belongings on the trams, as they are popular spots for pickpockets. Rideshare: Download Bolt in addition to Uber; it is often slightly cheaper in Portugal. Staying Connected (eSIMs) For Convenience (Airalo or Saily): These are the most popular apps. You can buy a "Portugal" or "Europe" data pack (usually 1GB–10GB) for a few dollars. It’s perfect for Google Maps and WhatsApp. For Unlimited Data (Holafly): If you plan to post a lot of videos or don't want to worry about limits, Holafly offers unlimited data plans for a set number of days. Money & Tipping Cards vs. Cash: Most places accept credit cards, but smaller "Tascas" (local taverns) or markets may be cash only. It’s always good to have a few Euros on hand. Tipping: Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. In restaurants, rounding up the bill or leaving 5-10% for great service is standard. Quick Essentials Water: Tap water in Lisbon is perfectly safe to drink! Bring a reusable bottle to stay hydrated while you explore. Power: Portugal uses Type F plugs (two round pins) and 230V. You will likely need an adapter if traveling from outside Europe.
