How We Met

It Was 2013...

Before their lives as a Business Lead & Kindergarten Teacher, the two met at work. Jessica had worked at a local sushi spot for years and randomly decided to mix it up & apply for a different company. She was hired as a hostess/server at Cal's Classic Eats in 2013. She remembers feeling excited for a change and a little anxious on her first day so she got to work early and waited at the host stand before the restaurant opened. When Joey walked in to the restaurant and introduced himself to Jessica, there was instant attraction. The two became friends quickly as Joey continued to train her during her first week of work. They soon realized that they worked really well together and made a great team; guests would even comment on their natural chemistry. Despite their instant chemistry, both Joey and Jessica were in relationships with other people so they remained good friends for some time. Eventually, their work flirtations budded into feelings for one another and both became single. It took some time and a lot of effort from Joey (he will be the first to tell you that he spent a year trying to lock Jess down) but the two were finally on the same page by 2014. Their relationship hit a turning point when they spent a whole weekend together in celebration of the Seahawks Superbowl XLVII win (GO HAWKS!!) before making it official in March of 2014.

The Proposal

The last 1st date we would ever have

When it came time to plan the proposal I knew it didn’t need to be big and extravagant. It did however have to be romantic. 7 years ago when It came time for our first date, I had a similar thought. I had made reservations at her favorite restaurant the Pink Door with hopes of making a good impression. When we arrived I was met with horror as they informed us the reservation I made was in the bar and was 21+. Jessica wasn’t 21! Feeling embarrassed we turned around and walked back down the alley when we stumbled upon this little Italian place Il Bistro. After dinner we thought it would be a nice end to the night to go to Gas Works Park and watch the sunset. It was the perfect end to the last first date we would ever have. Last year I was reminiscing about our relationship when my mind went to our first date giving me those butterflies I felt all those years ago. This is when I hit me, Ill recreate our first date! “Jess want to go to the Pink Door tonight?” We arrived at the restaurant and were informed the tables were full for the rest of the evening. Of course I knew that, I had called them earlier to make sure. Acting embarrassed I mentioned we should stop by IL Bistro and see if they can get us in. Of course they can, I made a reservation weeks ago. Finishing up dinner I mentioned how similar this night felt to our first date and it would only be right to end it just like we did last time, watching the sunset. We arrived at the park and walked to the very same spot we stood all those years ago, with the sun setting above us and Seattle’s city lights across the water I dropped down to one knee and told her this night wasn’t a coincidence. A perfect start to our new chapter, just like we experienced 6 years ago right here. A few moments later our entire group of our closest friends and family came around the corner equipped with balloons and champagne to celebrate with us. We all hugged, cried and toasted to a beautiful night.
