Shannon was telling her friends a story about how a former boss of hers was trying to convince her to go on a date with one of her former coworkers and Kirsten (who is also Tom's cousin) said, "Wow! It looks like the world is trying to set you up this weekend! I just told my cousin Thomas about you and he seems interested! He's coming to my party next week specifically to meet you!" Shannon was so nervous, she got there hours before any one else did. When Thomas got to the party and was introduced to Shannon, he said, "Oh. YOU'RE Shannon!" and proceeded to walk away! Eventually, Nick (the best man) convinced Thomas that he had to talk to Shannon because she had saved a beer for him and the rest, as they say, is history! (Thanks Kirsten and Nick!)

Shannon had an extra ticket to the Islander game and, even though he was a Ranger fan at the time (long story), Thomas came with her! Afterwards, he told his friends that he liked Shannon because "she didn't talk during play"

On their first trip to Disney World in 2017, Shannon and Thomas had walked past a gazebo on the Boardwalk. Shannon, jokingly, told Thomas that if he had ever wanted to propose outside of a theme park, this would be the place to do so. Thomas stored that in the back of his mind. The morning they were checking in to the Boardwalk Resort, Shannon received a phone call that there had been a maintenance issue in the room they were staying in and would be upgraded to the cottages at the resort. They had just dropped their stuff off in the (stunning!) room and Thomas told Shannon he wanted to take a walk. Sure enough, they walked back to that spot Shannon had joked about 4 years ago and he got down on one knee!
