Fun local hangout beach in downtown Carlsbad. This spot has more sand than the average California beach so it is a great spot for a beach day. Located conveniently close to amenities like food and shopping. Also a good spot for beginner surfers depending on conditions.
North County San Diego's harbor consisting of docks, seals, a fish market, restaurants, and touristy shops. North County's widest beach (sand wise) makes this beach a fun hangout spot also, however, free parking is limited so you will want to get here early to avoid paying for parking. The jetty here offers advanced surfing.
Our top recommendation for light hiking/walking in the country. Explore coastal San Diego in a unique way by traversing the numerous trails that makeup this park. Parking is paid by vehicle in State Park lots or you can park on a nearby street for free and walk into the park.
For those looking for nightlife we recommend downtown Encinitas, specifically on the Coast Hwy around D and E streets. There are various types of restaurants and bars here. The Roxy: Not too rowdy and usually has live music. Sago: More of a younger club vibe. Shelter: More of a younger club vibe. 1st Street Bar: Dive bar with a DJ.
Another coastal San Diego gem, this park is slightly further away from our other recommendations and located closer to the city. The drive is worth it however, at low tide there are sea caves and tide pools you can explore.
We went on our first date here, I think it went well! ;) Upscale rooftop bar with sweeping ocean views in downtown Del Mar. Our top recommendation for a sunset spot. But be sure to get here early as wait time can be two hours for sunset. Below the bar is is Anns Hatmaker which is our favorite ice cream in the county and a must-try.
Great spot to rent kayaks and snorkel gear to explore underwater San Diego! We have seen octopus, seals, sea lions, various sharks, stingrays, more fish than we know the names of, sea turtles, and lots more marine life snorkeling here.
For guests staying close to the wedding venue and looking for beaches near there we recommend Seaside, Swamis, Moonlight, and Beacons beaches in Encinitas. These are mostly natural beaches, so at higher tide there is limited sand and waves can come up all the way to the bluffs.
