Maid of Honor
Shannon and Anne met at William and Mary when Shannon was a junior and Anne a freshman, and they have been fast friends ever since. The two had so much in common that they participated in many activities together. They took Latin together in college, and Shannon joined Anne at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church where, in 1995, Anne became one of Shannon's godmothers. Shannon has attended each of Anne's graduations from undergrad to doctorate. Anne lives in Northern Virginia with husband, Rob. The two make a concerted effort to visit one another, even if it's far away. They have traveled together to San Francisco, Paris, and Florence. Anne will join us virtually for the ceremony, but by August will be able to join us in person along with her brand new baby!
Best Man
Duane and Scott have been best friends since they became neighbors in 1983. Duane practically grew up at Scott's house. In fact, Scott's mother Beverly considers Duane her second son. The two have shared a passion for nature, art, music and being plain silly when it's just the two of them for 36 years now. Duane and Scott also have an encyclopedia-sized volume of inside jokes that would make absolutely no sense to anyone but them.
Bridesmaid
Shannon and Jennifer met in their senior and freshman years of high school, respectively, and Shannon was delighted when Jennifer joined her at The College of William and Mary four years later. Jennifer also became one of Shannon's godmothers in 1995. Jennifer has been very helpful in wedding preparation and so kindly managed a shower for Shannon. Jennifer currently lives in Midlothian with her husband Chris, who is also the officiant, and their daughter Susanna, who will help to record the video of the wedding to share on Zoom!
Groomsman
Nicholas Byron Ferrell is Duane's son and the two share a passion for music. Nicholas is an avid gamer and is interested in pursuing a career in sound design. Nicholas, like his father, enjoys composing music and has a keen interest in game design as well. He is currently living in Gainesville Florida, where he hopes to attend school for digital media production. Since he's in Gainesville, Nicholas will be joining us virtually for the ceremony and will fortunately be present when we can all travel far and gather safely.
Bridesmaid
Shannon and Kim are first cousins who were born four days apart. They had the good fortune of growing up near one another, going to elementary, middle, and high school together, and spending many summers and holidays together. Kim works as an occupational therapist, is married to Jeff Fitzgerald, and has two daughters, Audrey and Elizabeth. Sometimes she, Audrey, Elizabeth and Shannon all get a case of the giggles when they are together.
Groomsman
Duane and Jonathan met in 2012 as a result of their shared passion for music and art. As musicians, they played numerous shows together and even performed as a duo for a short time in Richmond. Jonathan is currently focusing on visual art and has exhibited his work in various cities across the US. He is married to a photographer and they have two children.
Officiant
Shannon and Chris met at the College of William and Mary and connected over their shared last name. In fact, all the Carrs (no relation) used to have "Carr 'Family' Luncheons" together at the Campus Center. What was additionally remarkable was that later Chris and Shannon's good friend Jennifer met and married. Chris is now a pastor at Christ the King Lutheran Church and will officiate the ceremony.
Mistress of Ceremonies
Maggie and Shannon met when Maggie, along with her husband Kevin, moved to Richmond to work as a fellow French teacher. Maggie and Kevin were some of the first people who met Duane when Shannon and Duane started dating and two of the few people who were "in the know" when Duane proposed.
Zoom Hostess
Sarah and Shannon met when they were six and five, respectively, and have been good friends ever since! Sarah brings out Shannon's inner ten-year-old. Sarah is now the University Librarian at UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, and has graciously agreed to host our Zoom session in order to share our ceremony with all of our guests. Her fantastic eight-year-old Joseph will be her right hand man during the broadcast.
