In a synagogue, seated between his Dad and side-kick Sam Spitz, Caleb was filled with anticipation as the festivities began for his best friend Jacob's wedding. As he spotted her enter the room, Caleb whispered something (PG, of course) to Sam. Shanna, on the other hand, was just trying to keep it together. After the bar exam and a recent breakup, she was not quite her best self. Nevertheless, she focused on the excitement of Naomi’s big day. With little bandwidth for social niceties, however, Shanna groaned when he sat next to her at the oneg shabbat. He started schmoozing and cracked a joke. To her surprise, she laughed, genuinely. They began sharing stories about driving through the mountains while listening to Taylor Swift, the quirks of being Jewish, and the values instilled in them by their grandparents. Little did she know, these were all classic Caleb pick-up lines (at a bar, Tinder, anywhere really). Yet, he found in her what he realized he always deserved. Shanna went to sleep that night hoping their spark was real. At the wedding the next night, Caleb was overwhelmed. He had a list of crucial wedding responsibilities: signing the ketubah, instigating an epic hora, memorizing a surprise flash dance, and not to mention wooing Shanna. Meanwhile, Shanna tried to play it cool as several women interjected to introduce themselves to Caleb. Not known for her subtlety, she kept him in sight—whenever he entered the dance floor, she just happened to be by his side. As the wedding ended, Shanna asked Caleb if he wanted to ditch the afterparty and join her for a walk. Without hesitation, he said yes. They took turns navigating the streets of Philadelphia, getting lost in the darkness, sharing stories and laughing. A simple twist of fate changed everything that weekend but since then, not much has changed. They continue to take turns navigating new and familiar cities (Buffalo, Providence, Chicago), all to find their way home to each other.
