April 14, 2019, marked the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 8—a season that disappointed fans but sparked something unforgettable. At a watch party hosted by Hector and Casey, Shanna and Joe met for the first time. Shanna was *instantly* impressed when Joe walked in with Game of Thrones inspired shoes, shirt, and crushed themed Oreos. Though they didn’t start dating immediately, two months later they reconnected and had their first date at the Del Mar Fair. Although long distance is never anyone's preferred way to start a relationship, Shanna and Joe had a strong feeling they wanted to stay in each other's lives. Shanna planned to be in Spain for a year teaching English. Joe eagerly awaited her holiday visits, and after an amazing birthday trip to Spain in January, neither anticipated how the world would change with the COVID-19 pandemic. As uncertainty grew, Shanna returned to the U.S., settling in L.A.—making long distance a little easier. Countless trips back and forth, the addition of their beloved husky Grey Wind, and a year later, moving in together marked the next steps in their journey. Eventually, they became homeowners, building a life that felt just perfect. On April 14, 2024, Joe proposed, and the wedding planning began!
