Our Story

Dating apps aren't THAT bad.

How did we meet? Well, it all started on a dating app, Hinge, where I was immediately skeptical of my now-fiancé and the bunny he had on his profile (which he has now admitted means that it served its purpose perfectly). I was convinced the bunny was not his, probably a plush toy or, at best, his sister's pet, but of course we know that the bunny is real and I've fallen in love with it. After matching we spent an entire week talking... okay I, (Shania) spent an entire week talking and Garrett listened. Later in the week, we met for Mexican food (yes, onions and cilantro were involved), and I knew he was the real deal. I knew he really liked me when, despite my onion-breath, he insisted that kissing me was no big deal. And I knew he was the one because I’ve always said, "The first man to bring me flowers on the first date will be my husband." And sure enough, he showed up with daisies—my favorite! Our first week of dating was rough - I totaled my car and Garrett had a very stressful week at work. We laugh about it often now, but it was not a good time in the moment. Our relationship and its hard times have taught us God's love and never ending grace. Garrett has loved me for all that I am and that's something that I have always prayed for. From our first Valentine's to countless adventures at the NASA Space Center and the San Antonio Zoo, we’ve made too many memories in just a year to really list them all. But nothing compares to sharing Sunday mornings at church, knowing that God brought us together to help each other grow and learn His love. He makes me a better person, and I like to think I do the same for him (I confirmed with him). Our engagement consisted of my bridesmaids and parents helping Garrett plan the surprise and me completely stressing them out by accidentally finding my hidden detective skills (since I was in between jobs Garrett even suggested a career change). I always loved the gazebo that Garrett proposed at, but no one knew that. Once again, a God thing. There is something so incredible about watching the person you love so deeply, get down on one knee. I blacked out for 30 seconds at least, and it was the easiest "Yes!" I've ever said. So, here we are—ready for the next chapter of our story and getting to celebrate it with all of you.
